Very poignant telling of Molly Jong-Fast's "year of death" and everything that led up to it
I like listening to memoirs read by the author and the thing about this one is that if Molly Jong-Fast wasn't reading her own story, i'd probably hate her as a narrator because she doesn't have that like perfected narrator voice but also I feel like it adds to the authenticity

Thank you to Mae Marvel, St. Martin's Press, and Netgalley for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review (unpaid).
When I first saw this book, only two words came to mind: Sapphic. Spies. I was delighted. And after reading the book, I am just disappointed. There was minimal action until 70 percent into the book, the romance was meh at points, it felt like there was a lot of character backstory that just was randomly dropped in to make plots work, the villain was totally predictable, and as an NC girlie, I hated how stereotypically Southern Yardley was written.

Love, love, love this book! Seriously I love road trip stories and found family family road trip stories even more especially when everyone involved is queer. Also really love the important discussion of how real life people queer baiting simply is not real.

This book starts off slow and was very reminiscent of other modern Royal romances at first, but quickly begins tackling difficult topics in a way that I have not seen from other works. While this is a romance, it is largely about the lives behind politicians and being raised in that shadow and not knowing who to trust because of it. I was delighted by the mystery because it took me a while to figure out who the culprit was (the red herring really got me) and I lovedthat William got fired .

This could have been a really good story but unfortunately it reeks of gratuitous nudity and toxic masculinity.

While I loved the concept of this book and especially loved Hayden and Alice, this book felt pretty disjointed and unfinished to me. Perhaps if it were a bit longer, and if we got some of Hayden's perspective (especially from a book that put so much emphasis on perspective), it could have been five stars.

I got a little bit lost in the writing sometimes, like when Sal would narrative the commercials - which I know is intentional but made it difficult for me to stay interested. The mystery was a pretty easy solve but I did like the adventure Sal and the others went on to try and find Detective Rivas and Bridges.
