Cutie! Healing for my past socially anxious college freshman self

This was such a speedy read, I had a hard time putting it down every time. It definitely felt pretty sympathetic towards Morgan and biased a bit to her experience, but I think it did a good job of highlighting the injustices of our court system. But I’m also biased as I don’t think people rotting in prison benefits anybody, no matter the crime or age or the criminal. But that ending! What! I understand that the case is ongoing and the story itself can’t be neatly wrapped up, but…. Not even a concluding chapter? It was so abrupt.

I read this sometime in high school and remember really liking it. Then this summer I read the prequel novella as a part of a reading challenge to fulfill the oldest book on my TBR. I really enjoyed the novella and it kind of had me itching for more soft academia mystery vibes, so I started the audiobook. I was disappointed. I hated Clay’s first person narration, especially when he was thirsting over the nerdy tech girl - major incel energy. Kinda hated Kat, too, honestly. Who the fuck wants to live forever? And the fact that his best friend was rich from making CGI boobs was just the cherry on top. It’s a bummer because the concept of the secret society and codes and old books and libraries and fonts was awesome, but the cast of characters gave me the ick.

Butler-esque with a more hopeful tone and takes place in Minneapolis. Love!

I don’t know why it took me so long to get through this book. It was pretty short, never dense, and about a topic I’m pretty jazzed about. I think I’m in just a bit of a reading slump, but something about this book just didn’t hook me. Can’t put a finger on what.

Same deal here. I think I was following this one more than An Artist but I still wasn’t very engaged. I’ll pick up a physical copy eventually! Or maybe an e-book?

I really don’t feel like I took in anything that was being said while I tried to listen to this. I want to complete my goal of reading all of Ishiguro’s books eventually, but I think I need to move away from audiobooks for him.
