The Last Final Girl

Stephen Graham Jones

DID NOT FINISH: 44%

The concept is incredible, however the execution is just not for me. I finished "Act 1" and couldn't tell you any characters names or much of what happened.  I just don't think the movie screenplay layout worked and it made the book confusing and hard to follow.
dark fast-paced

This was a can't put it down kind of read. I thought I knew where the story was going and I am happy to admit I was wrong. I did not guess the end to this one. Every single chapter I found myself shocked as new and more twisted secrets were revealed.
emotional hopeful inspiring reflective medium-paced

This was my first Rupi Kaur poetry book and I fell in love. These poems were beautiful and reflective. It felt like a raw and honest look into the authors soul while also being insanely relatable.

Its always so hard to review/rate a poetry book, because a lot of poetry is insanely personal. I just didn't connect with this. I know someone out there will love these poems but it just wasn't for me.

"Our love somehow transcended realms."

I wasn't sure how I felt about this book for about 60% of it. Was it a thrilling ghost story, a sweet romance, a sad piece of literature, it truly had me baffled. For a majority of it, I just hated the main character, Leeds, and thought he was a gaslighting asshole. However, the last 40% of this story really turned it around for me. This was my first "paranormal romance," and I am completely smitten. Hoover doesn't really miss with books!
emotional hopeful fast-paced

An emotional look into the authors relationship leading up to his proposal. Absolutely beautiful and brought tears to my eyes. I will cherish this collection of poetry for a long time.
funny lighthearted medium-paced

Classic Mindy Kaling! Mindy is a great writer and it shows, she's able to take pretty mundane stories and make readers laugh. I wish this would have been a more cohesive book instead of a few essays, however it was enjoyable and a pretty quick read.

One of the most creative books I've read this year. Not only was the story unique but the layout of the book is genius. This reads like a PG-13 campy horror movie in the best way. The ending didn't really click with me though. This was my first book from this author, will definitely pick up another.

This was the cutest graphic novel and a super fast read. I loved all of the characters, however I felt like they were a little under developed. I would have loved if each year was its own 300ish page story so we could get more development and relationship building. I'll still pick up the next book!
