I would actually rate this a 3.5 stars. I enjoyed most of this book because it didn't really feel like a nonfiction book most of the time but there were places that dragged on. If you are thinking about picking up this book I would recommend. I think that a lot can be learned from this book about the World Fair and the serial killer parts just add extra entertainment.
I have watch movie adaptations of this movie for years and I always loved them but I had never read the original source material. I really enjoyed Dickens' writing. I thought that this book gave just enough of the "creepy" factor. I loved the descriptions of the different spirits and what they showed Scrooge.
I am also doing an Advent study with the youth group at my church that is centered around this story and it really is a story about redemption. I guess I never really paid much attention to that fact watching the movies growing up, but after reading this story it brought to light that no matter how a person is there is always a chance for redemption.
I really loved this story and I can't wait to reread it again!

I read this with my friend and I loved it so much! This was my first time reading this magical story and I don't know why it took me so long to read it in the first place. What I loved most about this story is Sara. She is one of my new favorite book characters. I have seen the film of this movie plenty of times but reading the book was such a fascinating experience for me.
Sara was born into a great life and had everything taken away from her and she still held herself with an air of grace that I don't know many adults who could handle situations like Sara encountered.
I think the stories that Sara told were some of my favorite parts of the book. I also just loved Burnett's writing here are a few examples of things I loved:
"Never did she find anything so difficult as to keep herself from losing her temper when she was suddenly disturbed while absorbed in a book. People who are fond of books know the feeling of irritation which sweeps over them at such a moment. The temptation to be unreasonable and snappish is one not easy to manage."
"If Nature has made you for a giver, your hands are born open, and so is your heart; and though there may be times when your hands are empty, your heart is always full, and you can give things out of that- warm things, kind things, sweet things- help and comfort and laughter-and sometimes gay, kind laughter is the best help of all."
I can not wait to reread this for years to come and share this story with my niece when she gets old enough.

This is a story about two sisters who have lost their parents and are just trying to survive in a dystopian world. I really enjoyed the premise of this book and the fact that it was supposed to be a Christian dystopian/sci-fi. I enjoyed the overall plot of the story but the Christian conversion is what fell flat for me.
I was really enjoying how Scripture was something that Grey remembered her mom quoting to her and her sister Rin. I really enjoyed the space elements to this story and the idea that humans could inhabit Jupiter. As I was reading this I was thinking through out most of the book that it would be a solid 4 star read for me until the end. I was hoping that there would be a big conversion for Grey but in the end it just didn't hold up to the 4 star rating I thought I would give this story so I gave it a 3 star.
I will be willing to continue on with this series and see if the Christian elements are focused on in the later book. I really enjoyed buddy reading this with Rebekah.
