Have not reread this since the marathon reading when it first came out.
Holds up brilliantly, but I'm reminded why I don't reread before a movie comes out. Spent a lot of time thinking about what they left out. . .

This started off very strong--mysterious parentage, a quest, and classic characters (Puck!) brought to life.
But then it just sort of spiraled out of control and some threads got started but never tied up. It's the first of a trilogy, but I'm not likely to complete the arc. At a certain point, I just got tired of it all.

Loved, loved, loved this book. I identified so strongly with Lara Jean---who hasn't over thought a crush? Who hasn't poured out their soul in privacy? The relationships rang so very, very true--her entire family is messy and loving and just perfect. Can't wait to read some more Jenny Han!

So, here's the thing about this book: it was sitting next to my recliner where all library books wait for me to get to them. The library call slip was in the book. Dad comes over to my house to wait for a repairman and picks up the book and asks me about it--assuming I've read to the library call slip. And then asks to borrow it when I'm done, because it was "interesting." My dad has never, ever picked up a YA book in his life.
And it's so very, very good. A well crafted alternative world, mysteries that make sense, adventures that make sense, and a really big story behind it all. Will definitely be reading the rest in the series! Not sure if Dad will join me, but still. . .

Read this at least twice in college. This reread was inspired by the museum's book club--every now and then, I make them read something from our time period. Most of the group had read it previously, but it had been a very long time. We had such a good discussion about this one--so many different angles to dissect. It's a classic, for good reason, and worth revisiting outside of a classroom setting.
