If you are a fan of the Vampire Knitting Club - this is similar.  But doesn’t have as enjoyable a story or character development. 

The lead protagonist has a more world weary way about her and this book offered a lot less of the escapism I was looking for. 

Male protagonist vampire character was a bit silly - but I’m probably going to read more books in the series anyway so this feels like a 3/5. It’s not bad, and it’s not good, but if you’re looking for something relatively light with a cozy mystery and romantic tension, this will probably fit.

This is cute and fun and exactly what I was looking for after some intense reads. 

Also refreshing to have a nonfatphobic cozy mystery book to read and I’m hopeful that will be true of the rest of the series as well.

I wasn't connecting with this book in the first few chapters so I took a little break and came back to and I'm really glad I did because I got really into it. I had no idea where it would end up, because I didn't read anything about it and thankfully a friend recommended it or mentioned it, so I knew it was worth reading. 

I enjoyed this book quite a bit. I enjoyed the voice of the octopus, the characters were lovable, and I found the way the story was woven together really appealing. Just a very feel good book. 

Another brilliant book from Samantha Shannon, and even bigger than the last one. I appreciate a story I can really sink into and this is it. Incredible world building, and interesting and characters you can root for. Loved the pacing, and the exposition. 

This is the "prequel" to The Priory of the Orange Tree, but I think you could read it without having read Priory - though I think it's easier to get into the world with some point of reference.

I loved this weird and wonderful series and I feel like book three does it justice. 

I enjoyed the character development, discovering new worlds and societies on other planets and appreciated the ambitious storyline and universe building. The characters are loveable, flawed, and forgiving and seem like real people doing out of this world stuff. I feel like a review of book three ends up being a review of the whole series - the entire premise is inventive, and largely unpredictable. I find parts of it authentically chaotic - in that what is happening is chaos, and the written words capture that emotion. 

There are several parts of the series that are just delightful, I love sinking into the world and being delighted by some of the explorations, heartened by the friendships, or simply horrified by some of the villains. 

It's YA, and it's YA I would have loved to have as a young person, but appreciate as an adult too.
