meegzreads's Reviews (1.89k)

Wow. Not entirely sure how to review this one.
Firstly, a hot cowboy rancher as the main character, plus he owns a sex club? A very interesting concept. But lets be honest, you had me at the word cowboy. Not to mention the fact that Luke Bryan is mentioned in the first few sentences of chapter one. *swooonn*
Once I got into it, I enjoyed the storyline in this one and the relationship between Woolf and Callie, and while I started out thinking this reminded me a little of Fifty Shades (no, not in the storyline, just in the way its a kinky novel - this is nothing like good old Fifty.), I soon realised this was a totally different concept.
The sex club idea isn't a bad one, but I wasn't too into the who being watched and participating with others thing. I found those scenes interesting but not as enjoyable as the ones where it was just Callie and Woolf.
I enjoyed watching Callie learn to discover herself and if she wanted to be "new Callie" or "old Callie" and who each of those sides of her was.
Woolf's relationship with Bridger is quite the interesting one, and I'm glad that some of it got explained towards the end, but I would definitely like to learn more about him and a book about him would be great I think.
Obviously the ending of the book leaves it open for the next in the series to be about another character, and that was certainly an interesting chapter. I was guessing at what was going on the whole time until I realised what was actually happening.
All in all this was a quick and sexy read, although it did have some aspects I wasn't quite sure about.

Disclosure: Some spoilers ahead - read this review at your own risk. (Sorry guys, not sure how to put my feelings about this one into a review without explaining things that happened along the way)

Whoa. What a roller coaster. I don't even know where to start. I love the Maddox brothers and I have really enjoyed this whole series.

I didn't really like Ellie when she appeared in the other books in the series (I love how they all intertwine and overlap by the way) and I didn't particularly like her in this one either.

At first I thought oh wow she's a massive bitch and then she started to get her act together. I'm thinking yeah good here we go, we'll see the real Ellie and the good side of her will learn to come out. Wrong. I hated how she made no attempt to help herself. She was going so well at the start and then gave up caring.

I hated how she treated Tyler, always with the excuse "I warned you!" - dude grow up, you can't use that as an excuse for your behaviour. You don't treat people that way constantly. Part of it was because she needed to learn to love herself, and to get out of the situation her life had fallen into, but still I wasn't impressed. I also thought Tyler put up with too much shit from Ellie, not something a lot of people would do. Shows another side of loving the bad with the good, but I think this was a bit too far. But typical of the Maddox brothers it shows his love for his girl and how he's willing to hang around and fight for her or whatever the case may be.

I particularly didn't like how people helped enable Ellie. Especially JoJo and Paige- taking her to the bar? Seriously? Even Tyler should've seen what was going on but he didn't. I guess you can hide these things really well when you're an addict, but I still feel that all these people who were close to her should've seen what was going on and made an effort to help her out.

Tyler realised this by the end, which was good, but the others didn't seem to care. I loved Tyler's character and his trademark Maddox cockiness and love for the girl he fell for, but he's not my favourite Maddox. Trav and Trent will always be my favourites.

I did really enjoy how Ellie fit in with the hotshots crew and how they all worked like a family. That's a great side to see in the book. And how she found a passion for photography. As an amateur/hobby photographer myself that's something I can relate to. I also liked how she is by the end of the book in terms of being a trust fund baby and the fact that she doesn't really care about that much anymore. You can see it throughout the book, but when she finally stands up to her Mum at the end it's the most obvious point and the best point.

I really loved having the overlap with the other books way back to Abby and Trav, which has been consistent throughout the series. It gives it that little bit extra I think and shows other sides of the timeline we haven't seen before.

All in all a great instalment in the series and a must read for Maddox Brothers fans.

(I was pleased to read after the end that Jamie McGuire is doing a novel about a couple of the secondary characters in this book. Bound to be interesting as always)

And when a Maddox boy falls in love, he loves forever.

It's still Trav and Trent for me, sorry guys <3

I really enjoyed this series. This book is the last of the set and is Ivy's story. We've met Ivy previously, particularly in Chasing River and has glimpses of the fact that she's not all just the tough exterior she shows to the world.

The book starts off with Ivy and her Uncle at his tattoo shop and she ducks out to get some food for them and his client. When she returns theres a robbery going on, which turns lethal. All with Ivy as a witness hiding under a desk.

Enter Sebastian, and his task of finding what the robbers were looking for, and finding out if Ivy is a threat.

And so begins the tale of Ivy and Sebastian's romance, the secrets he's keeping, the toughness Ivy tries to hide behind starting to fall away and whether or not they will actually end up together. Amongst all this, Sebastian is trying to keep Ivy safe, the cops are trying to work out who killed her Uncle and why, and Ivy is just trying to get on with life and figure everything out.

I really loved Ivy's character. She has such spunk but deep down she's a softie. I also loved Sebastian as a character and even with what he did for work, it made sense. He had his values and in his way it was doing the right thing. Theres a sensitive side to both of them and it really seems to come out when they're together. I feel like some people may think their relationship moved fast, but as I was reading the book it wasn't what I was thinking. It seemed just right and suited both of them.

This was a great way to end the series, although I certainly wouldn't complain about getting another book which is divided into 4 sections and shows us where all the couples and characters are later in life. I think that would be really interesting as all the characters in this series have their own quirks and interesting stories.

A must read if you're a fan of the Burying Water series, just as good as the others, and an enjoyable read.

Not really sure what to say about this one. I was intrigued straight away by the prologue of this book. No-one deserves to put up with any form of abuse from their partner - or from anyone at all for that matter.

With Tina starting anew and meeting Ardan at the bar, you just knew straight away that with him being a biker this would be an interesting story, coupled with what she was running from. Tina and Ardans relationship seems to move fairly quickly and I feel like things could've been explained a bit better, instead of it just moving so fast.

I haven't watched the complete series of Sons of Anarchy, but I've watched the first couple of seasons, and I couldn't help but think of them when Ardan was talking about the club, being all badass biker, or they were actually at the club itself with the other members and old ladies.

I love the badass biker side of things and I really did like Ardans character. I also loved how Tina realised that none of what happened to her was her fault. People like Darren are the ones with the problem and in the end it was an interesting outcome.

The epilogue makes me wonder if what Ardan told Tina is going to come back and bite him in the Arse, so it actually makes me want to read this series. This was my first Chantal Fernando book, so I'd be interested to read the first couple and then continue on with the ones that come after this one as well.

A quick read with some quirky characters. Would recommend.

The idea of this book is a good one. The guy has a horrible proposal and wants to make it up to her in 10 days. Sounds like it'll be charming and romantic and possibly funny, and of course the title of the books can't help but make you think of the Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey movie How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.

In reality though, I found the book wasn't really all that good. It didn't keep me captivated like I had hoped it would. Mikey is a charming character, and watching him get to know Dave and help him win Jazz back is great, but of some reason I just wasn't hooked on it.

I didn't really care too much about Jazz's chapters in the book as I just didn't connect with her. She has her reasons (and very understandable ones) for her confusion and doubts about marriage, but I just didn't connect with her or feel myself cheering her on. I was more for Mikey in that way.

Mikey's thoughts about how people perceive him and his feelings about people etc etc are very valid and true. I have a gay friend, and I know he has been through a lot of this stuff himself. Its quite a true concept to have in a book of today and interesting to see it included.

Of course we're all hoping for the happy ending in a book like this, but I just found myself reading it to finish it, and not particularly caring one way or another. I wasn't hooked on the story or the characters as I have been with some novels.

Graphic novels are not usually my thing, but I'm a big fan of the TV series The Walking Dead, so figured I'd give the graphic novels a go. This first one is quite short, but it depicts everything it needs to and I do want to get the next one.
They're in B&W as well, which having a Kindle Paperwhite works fine for me. So far so good, I think i'll keep going with these (if I can figure out the correct order that is haha. Thank you good reads for showing series order etc haha).

So far these are following the show exactly, well I suppose I should say that the show has followed these exactly. Rick has just gotten back to camp with Glen not that we know his name yet in the graphic novels) and discovered that Lori and Carl are safe there. And now he's had glimpses of just how many Walkers are out there and how horrific they are.
Onto Issue 3...

3.5 Stars this time.
I'm finding myself getting hooked on these even though they're so short and so far the same as what the series has been made into.
I'm keen to see how it progresses as I absolutely adore the TV series, but I know that things are different in the graphic novels, so I really wanna see what happens. Also, I'm just getting addicted to them in general I think lol.

Book and Show still pretty similar so far. This is where its going to start getting interesting with Shane I think.....
