This book was messed up on so many levels. It was less about gore and more about taboo challenges and I found it a little tame, but it was still disgusting in a few parts. Definitely not something to read if you’re squeamish. Even though I did enjoy it, I think this will be my first and last time reading a book like this.
I was honestly doing ok until the homeless man came in and Lois started doing the challenges. It was gross and descriptive.

This book was a mess of exposition and whiny characters. The writing style was so dry and technical. Even the audiobook sounded like it was being read from a textbook. There wasn’t much happening and the chapters were so long that I had to push to get through each one. That’s not what I want from my books. The world building and magic system barely made any sense. I really don’t get the hype for this one. I really was excited to read it though.

The Heart Forger was an action packed sequel to the Bone Witch. I love Rin Chupeco’s writing style and her storytelling. The two time lines are both very interesting. There was a bit of a disconnect between the two at some points, but it didn’t affect the story too badly. I can’t wait to find out how she ended up on the Sea of Skulls in the past and what she is going to do in the present. It is such an intriguing story with amazing characters.
The only downside of this book was the editing. Some character dialogue was so off and mislabeled that it did make some parts hard to read. Once I figured out what was going on, I was able to decipher who was meant to be speaking. Luckily, with kindle, we are able to let the publishers know these mistakes.

Memoirs of a Geisha, but with Rune Magic and Necromancy. Rin Chupeco has created a beautiful and intricate world with an interesting magic system. Tea was a great character, and this story explores both who she is now and how she came to be that person. I’m excited to delve more into this world and learn more about how Tea came to be the Exiled Dark Asha.

The Lost Cities is the sequel to Drift House. This book didn’t really have the same impact or excitement of the first one and we didn’t really get any explanations of the twists that occurred. It was a very average read.

This was an amazing sequel to The Compound. There were so many twists. Even though I have read this before, it still shocked me. It hits slightly different than the first one. In this one, the characters are dealing with PTSD, but also adjusting to their new lives as a family. I understand why Eddy felt the way he did. This is a great book.

The first time I read this book, I was absolutely shocked by what I was reading. I found some parts very disturbing. Knowing what I was getting into this time around took some of the impact of the situation away. This book was still an intense read and had me questioning what I, as a human being, would do if I was trapped in The Compound. I found Eli to be a bit annoying at times, but I guess that’s what you get when you’re in the mind of a rich kid. And the father, Rex, was terrifying at times. I did really enjoy the story, but I found the writing to be a bit too simplistic.

This is a book I read when I was in my early teens. I loved it so much that first time and spent years trying to find it again. I’m so glad I was able to read it again. There was so much adventure and a couple of twists. I will definitely be reading the sequel (which I didn’t know about until recently). It is middle-grade, so it’s got quite a simple plot and an easy to understand writing style. I think it stands the test of time. I really enjoyed it.
CW: This book does start off by mentioning the 9/11 disaster.

I thought that I would really enjoy this book. It seemed like something right up my alley. And then I started reading it. The writing style didn’t mesh well with me, and it was made worse by the long chapters which were mainly long because of all the descriptions. I didn’t much care for the characters either. Dara really annoyed me most of all with his attitude. I am sad I didn’t like it.

This book was such an emotional ride. I cried and I laughed. It was a wonderful ending to a great series. I love VE Schwab’s writing style so much. It’s got a lyrical quality to it, but it’s not over the top. And the story was beautiful. I loved all the characters, especially Lila and Alucard. Holland’s arc was great too. I kind of wish there was more of this world to explore.
