Probably the most serious of Austen's novels, dealing with class difference, morality and even touching on slavery during the height of the British empire.

Eve Babitz was wickedly clever and an absolute icon, there's no denying that. I just found her a little bit too mean at times.

Really liked the titular essay 'Slouching Towards Bethlehem' and 'Goodbye to All That', respectively interesting pieces on the hippie movement in San Francisco and Didion's own experience of living in (and choosing to leave) New York. I'll read more Didion, maybe White Album next
