THIRD READ (apr. ‘25): nearly three years since my first read, pines is still the best thriller i’ve ever read. i will never tire of this trilogy or the hauntingly beautiful and brutal world blake crouch created.

SECOND READ (oct. ‘23): dare i say pines was better the second time around? the wayward pines series is utterly captivating. the best thriller i’ve ever read, hands down. i truly can’t recommend it enough.

a classic.

FIRST READ (aug. ‘22): (4.5) the television adaptation of wayward pines is my FAVORITE SHOW OF ALL TIME. i’ve watched it too many times to count. so as you can imagine, i had incredibly high expectations for this book. i'm pleased to say this book met my expectations. it was so much fun getting to compare the novel to the show, and getting to read the original plot.

i’m a firm believer in the saying “the book is always better,” but in this case, i don’t think i can choose between the two. they are both incredible stories that I will never forget !!

SECOND READ (apr ‘25): (4.5) wayward was SO much darker than I remembered. blake crouch crafted the perfect, terrifying, most unhinged villain i have ever read about. hands down.

FIRST READ (aug ‘22): wayward was an incredible sequel. so intense and evil and all-around dark. i’m trying really hard to write a review, but words won’t do this justice.

i think ethan is such a complex character, and i’m not sure if i love him or hate him. some of the things he did pissed me off, but I also understood his point of view. all my thoughts and feelings towards him are super jumbled.

and don’t even get me started on dr. “i am god” pilcher!! that man creeped the fuck out of me.

anyways, wayward was a solid sequel, and I'm interested to see where the story goes.

my review in simple terms: it was fine.

i liked the beginning of the book. it was fast-paced, and i loved meeting all the characters. i found myself smiling and giggling while reading about the blossoming romance between tess and colten. i was certain this would be a five-star read, but the last third of the book came along and knocked off two stars.

i hated the time jump. i thought it was very random and unnecessary. four years is a long time, but it seemed like only a few weeks had passed, and nothing had actually changed.

i think i would have liked this more if i were younger.

i don’t have much to say about this.

i’m a huge fan of retellings, but sing me forgotten didn’t do it for me. it fell flat and i’m not sure why ?? i really wanted to love this :/

ever the hunted wasn’t bad by any means, but it didn’t blow me away either. it just felt lacking in quite a few areas.

i might pick up the other books in this series later on, but as of right now, i won’t be continuing the trilogy.

reread (oct 2022): crown of midnight has one of the best cliffhangers i’ve ever read. my whole body broke out in goosebumps when i read the final page (for the second time)!!

first read (jan 2021): OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD THIS WAS ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE I CANT BELIEVE I WAITED SO LONG TO READ THIS SERIES

reread (oct 2022): one thing about me? i’m going to devour every sjm book i pick up. i can't help it. i don’t know what it is about her writing, but it just does it for me.

this series is insane and i’m so glad I decided to reread it.

first read (july 2020): STAN DORIAN !!

reread (oct. 2022): heir of fire will always be one of my top fantasy books of all time. it’s unbeatable. the plot was perfectly executed, and I wouldn’t change a thing about it.

and don’t even get me started on the character development !! 10/10.

first read (feb. 2021): FULL REVIEW COMING SOON I JUST NEED TO CALM DOWN FOR A SECOND!!

UPDATE:

okay okay i’ve calmed down a bit so lets chat: this was fucking incredible. i have no words. everything about this book was perfect.
