I wanted to love this book. It felt important. But by page 100 I had no clue what was going on and decided to quit. I rarely leave books unfinished, but this one felt like a chore.

I’m not sure it’s possible to put into words just how fantastic The Nightingale is. It has made me second guess any other 5 star review I have ever given. By page 100 I was sure it is the best book I have ever read. Though I must advise, I don’t recommend reading the last 25% of the novel in a public place. I’m fairly certain the person sitting to the right of me on my plane to Miami this morning thought I was traveling to Florida to attend a funeral— so many tears, so many tissues. Luckily the woman to my left pointed at my book and told me how much she loved it— so she gets it. I have nothing but praise for the author and look forward to reading more of her work.

An outstanding work of fiction that deserves every bit of praise it has received. I learned so much about a part of history what I was completely ignorant of. I am speechless.
