I picked this book up after seeing so many people rave about it. Now that I have read it, I can definitely say that it is one of the most heart-wrenching stories you will read. This book is set during the World War II, and the boy's family has to move away from Berlin next to a concentration camp where all the Jews are kept. It is classified as fables, but I wouldn't call this a Children's book. Though it is told from the perspective of a 9-year old German boy, the actual content it deals with is very hard-hitting and explores the nasty side of a war.

The first thing you notice is the child's innocence. Though Bruno seems to hate the decisions his parents made, the way he justifies himself and the situation is sad for the reader. The unique friendship between Bruno and Shmuel, the long causal conversations they have about their very contrasting lifestyles, the family and the environment, they all come together and it really is good. Something that really made me cry was, the curiosity of a child about the harshness all the other soldier's have and the discrimination between them and the people beyond the fence. It sounds simple, but when you read it as an adult, you understand the depth and the importance of the discrimination that was a part of World War II and how the same simple question might lead to a person's death.

I really liked the minimum characters, the setting of the story, and how few things were explained in the form of a conversation or a part of the next chapter. It kept the flow simple and neat. But I felt that something was missing the entire time I was reading this book and that's the only reason I give this 4.5 stars. I have no clue why, and I wish I knew what it was.. And that ending! OMG that ending crushed me! 5 pages left, and I thought the story is going in one direction, and BAM, no way, I had to be crushed like a tiny insect.... Though I hated the ending, I think it holds a very powerful meaning and a message to both the reader and the characters in the book. The way Bruno's dad behaves, and how it affects the surroundings and how he realizes his actions might have terrible consequences ( No spoilers) was really important to the story and I respect the author for taking that leap with the ending!.

Overall, an amazing read and it has become one of my favorite books of all time!! The list just keeps getting longer. But if you are looking for a simple historical fiction which deals with the sad reality of a war, child's curiosity, and holds a very powerful message, definitely get this book and read it. Even if you do not read at all, pick this book up and read it. It is amazing, and you will not regret it.

First read of the year 2019 and I am already bawling my eyes out with that ending!! To say that I loved it is such an understatement!! 💖

This book follows the perspective of two characters Thomas Fawkes, who is turning into a stone because of a stone plague, and Emma who is an Igniter with secrets of her own. The setting of the world was really unique and the concept of Keepers & Igniters, and the history between them were intriguing and I enjoyed it! Each person gets bonded to one color and draws power from that color with the help of a mask made by their parents.

First of all, the characters, their insecurities, and the secrets they keep were all bound together in a very good way. The relationships between the characters were very interesting to read about especially between Thomas and his father. You could physically feel the discomfort, the guilt and the happiness, and that made me bond with the book and the characters even more!. I really liked the way Emma and Thomas helped each other with their difficult times and I found them pretty cute!

The first few chapters might be a little boring and feel like a typical high school drama, but trust me, it gets really better. The way each character grows in their own way, how they start realizing the things they want in life and prioritize it, and how the decision made by a single character results in a series of catastrophic events! It really gets heartbreaking towards the end. The ending is not abrupt, you already know it is going to happen, but the way it happens makes you want to pour your heart out and just go sit in a corner and not do anything for days. The ending really packed a punch which I absolutely loved!

I would have been even more invested and excited about the book if the other characters could have gotten a little bit of spotlight too. Nonetheless, I absolutely loved this book and it is definitely safe to say that I am not over that ending. Overall, if you are a fan of really good writing, amazing world, complex characters, a really good character and plot development, with a shit ton of heartbreak towards the end, PICK THIS BOOK UP! I really liked it.

This book was an absolute delight to read! Plus the cover.. Shooketh.. The storyline, characters were really beautifully developed and it made me feel like i was a part of the book
At the starting, they had explained how the maji's and kosidan's are divided, along with the powers they can yeild, with the symbols, which was absolutely useful!
The character development was wonderful. I would say Amari is my absolute favourite. The way she learns about friendship, love and life and how much she grows throughout the book is beautiful. Zelie is also my favourite, but i am slightly angry with her on few choices that she made. Ahem ahem.. And i dont particularly ship Zelie with the prince(why you do this?)
The culture and beauty of Odisha and the Maji's were explained to perfection. Though i had few issues with choices made by few characters, i absolutely love the book as a whole and cannot wait to read the next book in the series!

The first thing I loved about this book was the sensitive topic it deals with!. Not a lot of books makes an animal as a main characters and make it a realistic fiction with really painful and sad undertone. This book was one of them which really made me cry out loud. I felt all the emotions that the author was conveying and really felt it happen too!

The second was how the society and surroundings works with respect to the individuals. It's harder for us humans who can talk our way through certain things. But imagine the state of the animals who go through so much in the form of rituals and other customary things. I loved how the topic was covered and how it was handled.

A lot of people compare it to Animal Farm. But let me warn you, apart from animals being the main focus, they are nothing alike. While Animal farm was quite funny and dealt a post apocalyptic phase, this book deals with the everyday struggle and the hardships of the couple who adopts the Black goat called Poonachi. There are no funny moments, and the ending will just make you want to curl up in a corner and cry!

If you are looking for a realistic Literary fiction which can rip your heart into pieces and makes you understand about how unjust this world is, then I suggest you pick this book up. But on a serious note, you have to read this book. The heartbreak is so worth it!

How would you feel when someone took all of your younger self's thoughts and convert it into words and publish as a book? That's how I feel right now. This was not a fiction, it was once my mind as well. It's not the best I admit, but it was perfect for me. And I have the closure and tears. Enough.

I rarely cry while reading books. But this one made me tear up more than once.
The whole story and characterization was really apt and just enough to make the readers feel what they are going through.

I fell in love with the characters and felt the words deeply. I especially fell multiple times for Chris(swoon for the word choices :p #Goals literally) And Starr was such a strong character developed throughout the story. I actually have no complaints about this book regarding anything! Every character was needed and rightly used, the story was really smooth in terms of connections, and I don't feel like there were any loose ends!

Kudos to the author Angie Thomas for this wonderful and emotional story. I am super excited to watch the trailer now! And read many more books from her in the future.

This story follows our three main characters - Henry "Monty", his sister Felicity & his best friend / love interest Percy, on their adventurous and exciting journey around Europe. And when one of Monty's reckless decisions turns their trip abroad into a harrowing manhunt that spans across Europe, it calls to question everything he knows, including his relationship with the boy he adores.
First things first- Monty is reckless, careless, doesn't care about how others feel about any decision he takes. But that's what makes this book a delight to read! The character transformation that happens with him is amazing!, and he grows to show that change during the end. But I am biased guys, I adore Monty. He resembles a lot of teenage traits that is bound to be present in anyone, Even in adults. On the Contrary, Percy is the type of guy everyone dreams to be with! He is patient, charming, thoughtful, makes you feel special and says the right thing at the right time. The character contrast between the two guys makes for an interesting pair and it actually makes you want to ship them!
The relationship between Monty and Felicity grows over the period of their adventurous time, and its adorable. She is the representation of how powerful a women's voice can be, and proves that all of us can dream big and achieve big as well! I love Felicity as a character. She acts as the anchor between them all, and is not afraid to take charge when needed.
Monty's relationship with his father plays a very important role in his character development. How he perceives the truth that he learns about his father and strives to be the better person with the help of the people around him was really inspiring. A lot of teenagers view hardships as the end of their world, but if anyone can be an inspiration for them all, I think it will be Monty and Percy. And can we just talk about the relationship that develops between Percy and Monty? I am a sucker for adorable ships, and this is just Abso-freaking-lutely adorable! 'Moncy'? ❤️ I dig it!
