On my earlier reads as a teenager, I didn't like this as much as the others. Now that I'm older I can understand the gravity of tne situation and it's all so devastating, undedstanding how traumatized Katniss and the others were. It shows the horrible results of war and revolutions, propaganda and hope. Not to beat a dead horse, but there is a point to the love triangle and that is made clear in the ending. Maybe knowing the story and what is to come makes certain *moments* even more devastating, like watching a play unfold knowing you can't warn the hero of what is to come. Suzanne Collins might have written the most important series of books about the end of an authoritarian dystopian regime.

Took me a while to review after reading it because of how much it had impacted me right after finishing. Since a few years whenever I travel I try to buy a book from an author of that country, and a few weeks ago I picked this up in Budapest. It's a wonderfully written story about the almost parent-like relation the narrator of the book develops with a peculiar, stern older cleaning lady, against the background of post WW2 Hungary. The feeling I left the book with was haunting, feeling bad for everyone involved bc of the emotional stakes of the situation. Definitely will check out Magda Szabo's other books

More fun than I expected since I don't read YA anymore. Fast easy read, fairly well constructed thriller

Feels like a fever dream à la Mona Awad's Bunny, with a darker tone due to the disturbing sexual contents

I probably expected more. I can imagine it being quite groundbreaking when it first came out, but for me it didn't do much

Wonderful insight into the world of women in 50s-70s America, from housewives to students. While it is often seen as a "feminist book", (which it also is), it is actually about women's lives and their feelings, their hopes and dreams, their nightmares and frustrations and their communities. Definitely a recommendation for every woman to ever read in her life.
