I started this book, saying to myself 'These people are awful together! I hope the dude dies. There is NO WAY the author can salvage this into something believable and functional' and ended it with 'I have no idea how she did it, but they are meant to be and I love Nicholas'.

At first, I thought the story was unrealistic and/or stupid. Surely nobody's perfect relationship falls apart THAT fast, does it? And if it does, surely they don't stay enagaged, do they? But then the FMC acknowledges how dumb she has been and that self-awareness from a character turned everything around for me. If you get through the incredibly toxic part of the story, you start to see the real issues on both sides and it's just so... real. The resentment mixed with love, the confusion, your heart being between two fires, tremendous effort... That's what relationships often are.

I think the book could have benefited from more page time for Naomi's issues, family dynamics on her side, and how exactly their relationship deteriorated (mummy dearest obviously being the biggest reason). I would have also loved more interactions with Brandy.

The ending was just what I hoped.

Really, really enjoyable. It was done so well. It can't be easy to write a book that moves between multiple POVs and timelines, and execute it in a way where everything is in exactly the right place. Loved the fast pace and the messed up characters. The story wraps up so nicely that it's also fine to read as a standalone.

Kohustuslik lugemine praeguses poliitkliimas.

The concept of this book is so fascinating and unique, and the author managed to write about sex without it being weird or gross.

However, most of the execution was a letdown. The writing was clumsy and it often felt like I was reading an unedited draft. There were a lot of descriptions of food and places, but they were all out of place. It almost felt like the author thought 'My character is in a new place, I have to extensively describe it because that's what writers do' or 'My character is having a meal with people, I have to say what everyone got', which would have been fine if it had blended into the story seamlessly, but it was basically dialogue–description–dialogue–description and there was no transition into one or the other, so the descriptions felt like amateurish space fillers.

One time the author repeated an idea she had already written about earlier in the book, and I don't think the repetition was intentional. The pacing was also a bit off and the foreshadowing that was weaved throughout the book seemed to be forgotten at the end.

Couldn't help but think of Stranger Things when reading this. It was such a fun story. There was laughter, sadness, spookiness, but most of all, friendship. Can't imagine a kid who wouldn't like this book.

I was hoping for more. It started out really strong, but then when The Thing happens, it goes downhill and everyone starts acting stupid, which I absolutely cannot stand in books. I also think that the story doesn't make sense because the excuse the characters come up with to get out of a situation is one that not even the stupidest cop would buy. It's just so full of holes.

I wanted more from the romance, too. Their entire relationship was founded on lust and the honeymoon phase, not love. Let's be honest - they barely knew each other and were simply attracted to each other.

I think it would make a good movie, though.

Thrilling story with a satisfying ending.
Amber's part was perhaps a little dragged out, but I wasn't bored and still wanted to keep on reading. Daphne's was amazing. There was no twist because I pretty much called it from the beginning, and those two lines on the cover pretty much reveal what's going to happen.

Really liked this one! It was quite slow for the better part of the book, but not to the point where you feel like the story is dragging and not moving forward at all. I had so many theories, most of which turned out to be incorrect, including the whodunit, but I didn't feel tricked by the author because the answer was pretty much in front of me, I just didn't see it.

Keeping my eyes peeled for what the author does next because both of her novels have been a win for me.
