Chapata has a way with words. Each poem tells a story, personal and relatable. When I finished reading Flowers on the Moon I immediately bout his other two books. I can’t wait to read Velvet Dragonflies next.
This read sped by! I was so drawn into the story and characters that I couldn’t put the book down. I can’t wait for the next book!
It started off slowly which I did not enjoy but I loved the ending! I read this in one sitting and even if it did start off slowly the structure of the plot was intriguing. I didn’t like the main character but she’s one of those main characters that isn’t for everyone.
A solid YA gothic fantasy but I was hoping for something a little less predictable.

This book makes me mad. It opens up with a middle aged man having sex with a minor (big red flag) and it doesn't get much better from there. The main character is supposed to be this super intelligent woman but she doesn't show her intelligence until the end. I also had an issue with the insane amount of pov changes, it was unnecessary and took me out of the story. I was rolling my eyes the entire time. One more thing that bothered me: the cadence of the language. I'm all for historically accurate novel structure in historical fiction but this took it too far. It had all the confusing plot jumping of victorian novels without the intricate wordsmithing. I cannot believe the amount of people I have seen say that this novel is on the same level as Enola Holmes (it is not). I would not recommend this to anyone, there are so many better written red flag books.
I loved the first one and it’s sequel is no different! It felt more personal and raw.
I liked certain aspects but I found the overall novel to be boring.
Horrible. Will never be reading another CoHo book again. Absolutely disgusting.
I don’t think I’ll ever recover from the perfection that is Aaron Blackford.
