A captivating and twisty read! I really enjoyed it. Imogen reminded me heavily of Ianthe from ACOTAR and it was interesting having a character like that creating tension.
I was incredibly bored with this novella. I was only interested in the last chapter but it was short so it wasn’t too much of a drag.
I’m not sure what to feel about this book. I seriously enjoyed it and it kept me hooked but the characters didn’t feel as authentic as they could have. But I mean it’s a really good book so go read it.
This book made me uncomfortable in ways that’s not the good take a step back and look at your life ways. I genuinely felt that this book was not fit for a YA audience (as an older young adult myself). There are some stories that need to be told but if you are going to market it to 13-19 year olds then you are going to need to tone down the violent abuse. The constant body shaming, swearing, beating, and self deprecating thoughts/words has the potential to be seriously harmful to readers especially when there is no real growth at the end. I do not recommend this book in any way.
There were parts I was captivated by and there were parts I was dragging myself through. The good news is that this is a quick read and the chapters are really short.
After reading so much fantasy, this dystopian was such a refresher! I was reminded strongly of Matched in terms of the society itself. I have to admit that Lena was a bit annoying, but Alex was amazing and I love him.
I enjoyed this book! It wasn’t what I was expecting but I was (mostly) pleasantly surprised!
It was a solid book but unfortunately I couldn’t find an emotional attachment to it. The characters weren’t special and the plot was sadly a bit basic. I would recommend to people who want a chill pirate read but not people who want something new.
I’m going to do my best to not compare this to Red Queen. Okay, so once again Aveyard has written a beautiful and captivating narrative and y’all I am so glad I’m getting book 2 tonight because I don’t know how long I’d survive without it. I was obsessed with Erida, she is now my inspiration in all of life. The only thing I didn’t like, which is consistent with most books, is that I could have done without all the povs.
I really enjoyed this new book. I loved the take on sleeping beauty and Elyce was such as fun main character. The only thing that I didn’t like was that this book was way more religion heavy than her previous books which really took me out of the story. Like I get it being a prevalent theme in the story but having it mentioned every other paragraph was annoying.
