I didn't find most of these particularly scary or disturbing. Several were just clever plays on words, or ones that I'm pretty sure were gleaned from the internet or Reddit pages. An easy read for the Halloween season but not particularly memorable.

This book seemed to take itself more seriously than I expected. I felt like it was really dense and I couldn't ever connect to the main character It had similar vibes to Holden Caufield/Catcher in the Rye meets My Sister's Keeper, but it didn't do it well. All in all, I think the efforts of the author were amiable, but fell short. An uninteresting read for me.

This book took everything I found interesting about the first book and threw it out the window. I respect the idea and choice to kill of Tris, and would have preferred this book even more if it ended with that. It would have been bold and interesting. But instead I was subjected to Four rattling on with no real character for chapter after chapter. A poor choice for the narrative to me.

This story was fresh, original, and compelling. I really enjoyed Tris' character and the concept of the factions and being divergent. It's a bit special protagonist, but I think that there being a possibility of multiple people being divergent is very interesting!

I feel like this book did nothing to really build on Divergent. It was fairly boring and dragged on in several places for me. Four was much less interesting as a character, and just got really annoying and overbearing as the story progressed.

When I began reading this novel I didn't really like it, but the atmosphere and mystery really kept me going. I think it picked up for me around a third of the way in, and the characters were really interesting and three dimensional. I don't usually enjoy most magical realism, but I felt like this one was done well!

Someone recently told me that if we aren't reading Angela Davis now, then we need to be, and they are absolutely correct. I think listening to this as an audiobook is really helpful for reading through this. It's not exactly difficult to read, but it's dense. I think this is a a good piece to start with for someone wanting to begin reading Davis' work, and is necessary reading for beginning to understand the Prison Industrial System and prison abolition movements.

Fuck, like I FELT something reading this. I bit hard to follow, but oh so beautiful.

A wonderful addition to the Binti series! I think this added so much to the world and to Binti's character. It was exciting to see the university and Binti's return home. Okorafor does a fantastic job of building a vibrant and fascinating world for us to discover with her characters in such a short amount of space.

I really enjoyed this story! I felt like it was actually a song, and so much of it is fueled by emotion that I feel so deeply. Truly wonderful!
