Overall I thought this was very sweet, and enjoyed seeing a portrayal of friend love this way. I think the art was pretty and suited the story and mood very well. Not very deep, but it's something I would send as a love letter to friends.
I wasn't very impressed with this. I thought the art was cute, and I liked that it could kinda be a workbook about things to help soothe yourself when you're upset. I feel like it's extremely surface level and basic as far as self-help goes, and I'm not a big fan of this kind of "self-help" book.
This work is a horror short anthology that includes a lot of shorts included in other novels or collections of Ito's. To me, the strongest stories are Billions Alone (also titled Army of One in other installments), Venus in the Blind Spot, The Licking Woman, The Enigma of Anigara Fault, and Keepsake. A lot of these I've already read in different places, but some like Venus in the Blind Spot and Keepsake were new to me. Master Umezz and Me was also a cute addition, but didn't quite fit with the overall tone of the other stories I think.
The weakest stories were How Love Came to Professor Kirida and The Sade Tale of the Principal Post. They were either too short or just not as compelling and kind of meh. This volume also includes two retellings of short stories by Edogawa Ranpo, which were both fine, but not my favorites. The Human Chair is one of them, but that's a story I really think is it's best when you first read it.
All in all, I'm pleased with this collection and I really enjoyed having color pages included at the beginning of some of the stories

I enjoyed this one a lot more than I thought I would! I feel like towards the middle the plot goes a bit astray, and things were a bit convenient, but the atmosphere and art really made up for it. I really think that this story it interesting and I can see a lot of reckoning back to The Drifting Classroom. I'm glad this one is getting a newer volume this year!
When I first finished this book I was angry and hated it, and put it back on the bookshelf to rot. But about a week later when someone asked me if I had any good recommendations I told them to read this book automatically, so I reread it. On my second read I could see how much I was moved by the emotion, and how much I actually liked the ending. Definitely one of my favorite books.
I was surprised at how much I actually enjoyed this book and the story. All together is was a pretty fun story and the characters were funny and relatable and I was really into it.
I thought that this was very interesting and I really liked being able to see her develop again as a person. Really well written and engaging in a way I think a lot of memoirs struggle to do.
Overall I found this book to be fairly predictable and not all together interesting. I didn't really feel for most of the characters, and also I could see that one guy being gay from the first moment. I don't really think the mystery or the murder was very intriguing either.
I loved this! I think that Okorafor really does will with fantasy as well as Sci-fi, and as someone who doesn't really like fantasy I'm glad she's so talented. The characters were great in this book, and I really just love Sonny. I also think the setting was unique and fun, and I really enjoyed getting to see a magic system that wasn't European. I think at times the story dragged, but as a whole I would highly recommend it!
The art was pretty and haunting, and I didn’t see that ending coming at all, so I enjoyed reading this!
