This work is a horror short anthology that includes a lot of shorts included in other novels or collections of Ito's. To me, the strongest stories are Billions Alone (also titled Army of One in other installments), Venus in the Blind Spot, The Licking Woman, The Enigma of Anigara Fault, and Keepsake. A lot of these I've already read in different places, but some like Venus in the Blind Spot and Keepsake were new to me. Master Umezz and Me was also a cute addition, but didn't quite fit with the overall tone of the other stories I think.

The weakest stories were How Love Came to Professor Kirida and The Sade Tale of the Principal Post. They were either too short or just not as compelling and kind of meh. This volume also includes two retellings of short stories by Edogawa Ranpo, which were both fine, but not my favorites. The Human Chair is one of them, but that's a story I really think is it's best when you first read it.

All in all, I'm pleased with this collection and I really enjoyed having color pages included at the beginning of some of the stories
