I feel like this is a good book for a lit class. Things happen but they feel ~deep~ and you can read into them if you want.

A fast paced read! It completely deserved its Nebula win! I thought it was very real in the way it was tragic. It’s a future that seems so close and also so present.

Interesting concept and characters. It felt very real to current times, and has a lot of potential for development past this volume. I really enjoyed the sapphic love line, even if it ended in an open ended way.

The concepts behind this book and the worldbuilding were very awesome. I wan very interested in the setup of the different cities and the Gelet and the mothership. However, I think the actual plot and characters were lacking. The characters themselves were fine, but the plot was so drawn out and boring. It seemed like the author wanted to give space for worldbuilding and character development, but the story suffered for it.

I was expecting to be more emotional after reading this book. I think if I had read it when I was younger it would have been more impactful to me, but generally I think this story raises interesting questions.
