Honestly, I struggled to finish this book. The alternate timelines felt pointless, especially the 'before' narrative, which left me unsettled. It wasn't cringeworthy, but rather, it felt like unnecessary repetition without any meaningful growth or depth in the present storyline. Shiloh's character infuriated me - while I understood her struggles, her lack of development and growth was frustrating. Unfortunately, I didn't connect with any of the characters on an emotional level. Overall, it was an 'okay' read for me, but it didn't leave a lasting impression.

𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐁𝐎𝐎𝐊, is like that one aunt at the family reunion - 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐱, 𝐦𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐲, & 𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐝𝐲𝐬𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥, but you can't help but be drawn in by her weird charm. 𝐄𝐝𝐢𝐞, the main character, is a puzzle that's 90% annoying and 10% fascinating, but somehow, you'll still find yourself glued to the box top, trying to figure out how all the pieces fit together.
This book was a wild ride, folks. It's uncomfortable, thought-provoking, and guaranteed to leave you feeling emotionally drained but strangely exhilarated. Leilani explores complex themes like generational trauma, relationships, and identity with unflinching honesty.

𝐄𝐃𝐈𝐄'𝐒 troubled upbringing is like a masterclass in dysfunctional family dynamics. Her parents' relationship is a toxic game of pretend, where they wear masks of religiosity and normalcy but secretly indulge in their vices.This left Edie with a twisted view of what it entails to be 𝐋𝐀𝐃𝐘𝐋𝐈𝐊𝐄 in this society.
As I read towards the end of the book, I began to understand Edie's motivations and behaviors - and let's just say, they were a 𝐌𝐈𝐗𝐄𝐃 𝐁𝐀𝐆. Her journey towards self-discovery and growth was compelling, and I was invested in seeing her challenge herself and become a better person. The ending, where Edie takes a stand for herself and starts fighting for her own well-being, was satisfying and left me feeling hopeful.

So, if you're ready to meet a 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭 who's equal parts infuriating and captivating, then "𝐋𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫" is the book for you! 

My oh my... M.L. Wang has my heart with this book. I will definitely read anything she writes without hesitation. This book gave me everything I was looking for and exceeded my expectations. The emotions this book brought out of me are insane - it's a heartbreaking tale that keeps you invested in the story and its unfolding.

Every chapter revealed a mind-blowing secret that left me shattered but also kept me wanting more. Although this was a fantasy, it gave me a wider perspective on life, including the dangers of blind faith, the importance of breaking generational trauma, setting priorities and boundaries straight, and the importance of peace in general. I also loved the extremely strong female main character and the exceptional child as a male lead character (from my point of view).

There's not a thing I would change about this book - every bit of it is engraved on my heart. This is definitely a 6-star read for me.

FYI: If you loved Avatar: The Last Airbender or are just a huge fan of anime, this will definitely appeal to you. If you love those old Japanese/samurai movies, pick this up. Or if you're just looking for a story that will shatter your soul... add this to your TBR now!

Honestly, I was super stoked to dive into this book, but it's safe to say I didn't quite join the fan club that's raving about it. For most of the book, I felt like I was stuck in a maze with no exit – like 85% of it just didn't click for me. And when the big twist finally rolled around, I was just over it and ready to move on. It didn't have the impact I was hoping for, and that's a bummer.

Despite the predictability of the twists in this story this book was still a delight to read. The writing was smooth, the story was engaging, and it was just a really fun ride.

One story delves into the horrors of boarding schools, another follows a mother who keeps taking her daughter to witch doctors, convinced she is an ogbanje. Then there’s the hilarious tale of a family so attached to their chicken that they refuse to kill it, treating it like part of the family.

This book was absolutely unbelievable—in the best way possible! I enjoyed every single moment of it.

T.J. Newman’s writing style makes it effortless to visualize every heart-pounding scene, pulling readers deep into the terrifying reality of a sinking plane. That’s what makes Drowning so memorable and remarkable—it doesn’t just tell a story; it makes you feel it.

And the emotional core of this book, Y’ALL!!! I have never rooted for characters so hard in my life. Will, his daughter Shannon, and his wife Chris had me on edge, hoping against all odds that things would turn out well for them. Every character left an impact—Kit, Ruth, Ira, Jasmine—they were all memorable in their own way.
