To Love and To Cherish is the second book and this story features Laurie Spencer and Jared Smith. Laurie Spencer is another of the three female cousins that were introduced to us in the first book. Laurie has just become a widow, her husband having passed away from a heart attack. Laurie is a beautiful woman, but her husband was very controlling in every aspect. He was insanely jealous, and forced her to wear unattractive clothing and she was always by his side, since he didn't want her to attract male attention. Laurie is shocked to learn that she didn't inherit everything so that she could be financially secure. He left it to his brother to dish out to her when he felt she needed it. The last thing Laurie wants is to be controlled and have no freedom once more. But she has money, lots of it....money only she knows about. So she makes a pact with handsome rancher, Jared Smith. She will give him her money so he can purchase his cattle if he will let her be his partner in the ranch and so she goes to cook and clean for his crew while learning the ropes of the ranch. Jared will have to be forced to choose over Laurie and the love he has for her or making sure his brother and his men get the money that is owed them.
To Love and To Cherish is a spectacular story that I couldn't get enough of. I was able to listen to this one, since it was available through Hoopla (my library's audiobook system). It was great to see a continuation of the first book....the people of the wagon train have settled in Arizona, built a nice town and are prospering. It was great fun to see characters from the first book in this story. I grew to really like Laurie. She has great strength and character, bold and goes after what she wants. She isn't about to bow down to another man and stands on her own which was quite amusing to watch at times. The romance between Jared and Laurie is full of great chemistry from the beginning. It was a different experience seeing them act on their desire for each other pretty early in the book. We see how their emotional bond is built and gets put to the test. This was quite a wonderful story to read, and I couldn't get enough of it. I loved seeing the love story take place on a ranch, and seeing the way the ranch hands are all like a family and they take to Laurie instantly. A great spin of a romance, and a western that I would recommend to anyone that loves a great historical love story!! The ending just about made me tear up like crazy....we see some great emotional bonds that get formed and not just between our main couple....It will knock your socks off.

Forever and Always is the third and most latest release....I am not sure if this is just a trilogy or if there will be more books. You never know with Leigh Greenwood. Now Forever and Always is probably my favorite book of the series...which is saying quite a bit since I couldn't put down the previous two books. In this story we have Logan Holstock and Libby Spencer. Logan is the last of the three brothers and he has come out west to find them. Logan is dying from what his doctor tells him, and he knows he will be gone soon and must find his brothers before then. Libby Spencer, has recently become widowed when her husband was shot in his bank while a robbery was taking place. Logan saved Libby's life. Libby takes in Logan when he become too sick, but there is something suspicious about his illness. Libby and her daughter instantly take to Logan, Libby has never known affection or care until she meets Logan. Libby will fight for him no matter the stakes that are involved.
This was quite a beautiful story and I honestly couldn't get enough of seeing the last of the cousin and the brother get together. This had quite a mystery tone to the story as well. We see the evil workings of his ex fiancee who is only after his money and has been working to poison him, but Logan has no clue. We see her manipulations and how far they go. It was quite a unique experience to see how this aspect of the story balanced out so well with the other workings of the story. I loved seeing this and the way it came together in the end. The bond that forms between the three brothers that were seperated when they were just children, and are now reunited and having found love for themselves. I honestly wanted more of these three couples....so enchanting to see their families and their connection to each other and the way that they fight and banter for and with each other. It makes me want to read more of this author. I would highly recommend this trilogy and the audio narrative was done excellent!!

Virgin Slave, Barbarian King is the first book that I have read by this author and is a roman historical romance. There are too many books that take place in that time period, so I just had to read this and its was short but a sweet romance that left me wishing it was a bit longer. From the first minute they encounter one another, Wulfric is so good to Julia, even though she is at times a wildcat, which is understandable given the circumstances…but I just fell in love with Wulfric who was very patient yet firm, and who is very loyal to those he cares for. It was such a delight to take the first seat on this adventure and I hope to read more from this author. I loved her style of writing and the way you see Julia and Wulfric connect….definitely worth reading!!! Just loved it!

Madelyn Grayson has always done what is right, and even though she has always desired a career, she also dreams of marriage and a family with the white picket fence. Her rival in the business world of advertising, Zack Douglas, has reputations she wants to steer clear from. She believes him to be power hungry, deceitful and a womanizer. She steers clear of bad boys like Zack. Madelyn has just broken off her longtime relationship with her closest friend, who wanted marriage, but she wants more than platonic love, she wants passion and desire and a feeling of rightness. But on one night at a wedding reception, Madelyn and Zack share a dance, and spend a passionate night together, and Madelyn finds that she can’t resist Zack and his sexual vibe. As they being a secret affair, both Madelyn and Zack will learn some hard truths about each other, and what it truly means to love…
I will admit I had some reluctance to read this one. I hadn’t much ratings or reviews for this book. Now I will say that her historical’s are amazing, and I tend to get nervous when authors change genres, because you never know how it will work out. I was delightfully surprised with this one. Now it is not my favorite of this author, since she is fantastic in writing historical romances, and I do hope she goes back to writing them, but for a contemporary this was an enjoyable story that had me pulled in. I was able to really get into it, and even though there were a couple of aspects of the story I didn’t really like that much, I felt like the set-up of the story was strong, and the plot well balanced.
One of my least favorite aspects of the story was the heroine…now she wasn’t terrible, the first half of the story I really loved her. She seemed to be feisty and passionate, but had a good heart. I felt I could really relate to her. What I didn’t like so much was the fact that she seemed to jump to conclusions, and wanted to rush the relationship way too fast. This part of the story didn’t seem that realistic to me. There is also a small aspect of a love triangle, which I wasn’t expecting to see, especially from this author. But as an overall, as a romance novel, this was quite a lovely one. I really enjoyed seeing these two find their HEA, although I will say that it was pretty rough there for a while, but once they got past certain issues, you really feel the story connect to the reader. It did have many qualities that I fully enjoyed, and I loved seeing Warren expand a bit. I am looking forward to the next book.
A contemporary romance that is packed with sensuality, angst to love theme, and a romance that will put your emotions through the ringer…a simply delightful love story!!

Summary
Ildiko, as the niece to the King of Gauri, knows that her husband would always be chosen for her. That it would be a match for political reasons only. But what she never imagined, was to be mated to a Kai prince. This marriage will be a pact for power and safety for both of their people. Both the Gauri and the Kai find each other distasteful and ugly. When Ildiko finds herself seeking peace in her garden before the marriage, she meets a Kai, and although not the handsomest of creatures, there is something fascinating abou tit, and he makes her laugh. Then she learns that Kai that made her life, is Brishen, her future husband. Ildiko and Brishen start out in their marriage, knowing that there isn’t much of a physical attraction present, but they have a connection that they can’t explain. Both Brishen and Ildiko learn that their marriage can be whatever they make of it. It doesn’t have to be just a political alliance, but a merging of hearts.
The Hero
Brishen, is the spare of the king and queen of the Kai. He grew up in a home of parents that were cruel and viscious…most especially to each other. Brishen somehow has managed to keep a heart of gold, despite where he came from. Brishen is considered less important to his family. Brishen is a able leader and fighter, and lives on the edge of their territory. He is respected and admired by many. Brishen is quite the character….and I just adored him. Now he isn’t any pretty boy, but there is quite a bit of substance to his personality. He is honorable, loyal, and dedicated. He is protective of those under his care, What I grew to really admire about Brishen, is the way that he handles conflict and the way that he treats Ildiko.
The Heroine
Illdiko, will do whatever duty demands of her. She lost her family a long time ago, and she is considered to be not as important because she is the daughter of the King’s younger sister. She is then told to marry a Kai Prince. She knows that her future isn’t too bright, and that she will have to be away from the only things that are familiar, but when she realizes who is to be her husband, she is more than willing to take charge of her life and embrace her life with him. Illdiko is passionate, sweet, and funny. She has a charm to her that isn’t easy to resist, she is accepting of other, and she is very compassionate. I adored her as the heroine. She was quite endearing and very easy to relate with. I could see myself being her, and she faces challenges in the most patient way. She has spunk and the perfect blend of spirit.
Plot and Story Line
Radiance is the first in the Wraith Kings. I had heard so many great recommendation of this story, and so I decided to get it, especially since it’s at a great price for the quality of the story that you get. Radiance is a fantasy themed romance, and I don’t get to read these two often. Radiance begins with seeing two people from opposite lifestyle, being joined in matrimony. Ildiko and Brishen are as alike as fire and ice. They are completely different from each other in every way, from looks, personality, culture and even food tastes. But there is one thing that they do well…they become good friends and make each other laugh with insults. The insults…oh they were hilarious. These two definitely have some sparks from the very beginning, but they are more of an emotional connection at first. Both characters are determined to make the best of the situation that they find themselves in. But from the moment that they discover desire for each other…whew…watch out or you may get burned. These two can create some heavy fireworks. The romance is so sweet and tender yet passionate. I really love the whole “marriage of convenience” theme we have here, and the author does a splendid job of blending together a beautifully crafted plot, with in depth characters and some intense intriguing elements that add a certain depth to the story you don’t expect. Reading Radiance, made me realize how much I have missed reading this genre. I don’t get a chance to read it too often, and so this book was such a treat for me…and what delicious one it was too.
Cover
The cover matches the story line pretty well I would say. Now if I had looked at the cover before the blurb or any ratings… not sure I would have picked it up. But I have grown to love it now. I love the pose that they are in, has that poingnat yet sensual hint to it.
Overall View
Radiance is a powerful fantasy themed romance, a story of sacrifice, danger, and love. A tale that will leave you wanting for more…This is a must read for any romance lover…ASTOUNDING!!

Pippa Greyhawk, thought that she was in love with a fellow ranchhand that worked with her father. But then she learns that she is pregnant, and that Tim is actually married. She is burned from the scandal of it all, and her father takes her and her brother from their home in Australia, back to the states. In some ways, Pippa isn't sure that America is any better for her. She is despised by her father's sisters, but there is one man that treats her more humanely than anyone else does...Devon Flynn. Devon runs a horse ranch, and his land is right next to the Greyhawks. But then he meets Pippa on the mountain, and they start becoming good friends. Pippa moves in with him for a short time, when things at home get too intense for her. Soon their fragile friendship turns into something more. But both Devon and Pippa are keeping secrets from each other. Secrets that could tear apart what they have built together.
Devon Flynn, is the youngest of the Flynn boys. Devon always felt that he was blamed for his mothers death and that there has always been a hidden secret about her but has never been able to discover the real truth. Devon is intelligent and has a talent for horses. Devon has been honest about his intentions toward Pippa. Devon is upfront and full of integrity. What I liked about his character is his stubborn tenacity when it comes to Pippa. She is stubborn about taking their relationship to the next level, but Devon is as driven as a bull in mating season. He knows that Pippa is the real thing, and refuses to give her up. I really liked his character, because Devon is one of those characters that takes everything in stride and fights for what he wants.
Pippa Greyhawk is her fathers daughter in many ways but in other ways I feel like she could have had a tougher backbone. She is 20 years old, but she doesn't stand up for herself as much as I thought she was able at times. Most especially when her aunts are pretty mean to her. But Pippa in other moments, I grew to really like. She is more reserved and keeps to herself, but she also is courageous in moments that matter. My big issue with her was her denial when it came to her relationship with Devon. She is always pushing him away, but I honestly couldn't understand her persistence in keeping their relationship platonic when its obvious she wants more than that. So in some ways her character was contrary in ways that didn't completely make sense. But I grew to like her in the end.
Shameless is a story that I have been waiting for since I read Sinful. I love that Johnston has returned back to the rivalry. In Shameless we don't see the family rival tension as much as we did in Sinful. Which I was kinda looking forward to, but Shameless has a softer tension to it. I felt that Joan Johnston handled the secret pregnancy pretty well. I never do like secrets like this, and even though I felt like Pippa kept the secret a bit too long, it did add certain conflict to the relationship that I felt was needed for these two. From the beginning, I was hooked on their romance. It starts out sweet and gentle and I love the flow of these two together. They have instant sparks, but the focus is building up the friendship first and then slowly the sexual chemistry builds between them. What I do admire about Joan Johnston is that she doesn't place tons of sex into her romance and delivers a beautiful love story every time that I read her. That holds true for this one. Even though there are some moments that I had some issues--but in all honesty as a whole...this was a story that was utterly enjoyable and had its fun delicious moments.
The side characters int he story really added depth to the plot. What I find interesting was seeing a different side to Matt's sisters (Matt is Pippa's father). In Sinful, we see more of their side but in Shameless we see how difficult it is for Matt and his kids. They are treated like lepers, both of them Pippa and her younger brother who I believe is only seven at the time of this story. I really liked the brother. He was so adorable, and it was quite enchanting seeing Pippa's relationship with him. You can tell they are very close, and she understands him in ways her father never will because he has been gone a lot in their lives running the family ranch in Australia. We also have a side romantic plot dealing with Matt and Pippa's mother Jennie. There was a bit of a cliff hanger dealing with these two. I am hoping in the next book, we see more of their romance.
But as a whole, Shamless is a story that I loved and couldn't get enough of. Way to go Joan Johnston....keep more books coming.
I adore this cover....so sweet and romantic. I love the pose here, sitting on the rock (which is very relevant to the story), and I love her dress. So classy.
Shameless is a vibrant and tender romance that kept me captivated from the beginning. Joan Johnston has added a wonderful addition to this Bitter Creek Series that will leave you breathless for more!!

Gavin Patrick, is a capable and proud Scottish Warrior. Gavin has come to France, to help fight against the English. Gavin's life changed the moment he agreed to escort Marie Collette. Gavin is proud and capable and full of honor and can fight. Gavin is a character you instantly gravitate towards from the get go. He is chivalrous without coming off as being pompous or full of himself. He can be humble when the situation warrants it, and admits when he is wrong but stands by what he thinks is right. Gavin is one of the best heroes I have read in a while. I love the way he stands up to Collette, and makes choices that save lives. Gavin is such a great main character, a well-balanced personality.
Marie Collette, has lived a very sheltered life all of her life. Her mother died giving birth to her, and her father set her up with five maids, all of whom are strict and cool in demeanor and don't have one touch of affection for her. All they care about is that Collette acts with propriety in every situation. She loves books, especially stories that are packed with adventure because she craves adventure. There are many different sides to her character. At first she is very closed off, and comes off as being cold but in reality that is just how she acts on the outside, on the inside she yearns for affection and love and some adventure. This is where we see hidden depths to her character. Like an onion, with each chapter, we see one layer get pulled off and see the true essence of Marie Collette. I will admit, in the beginning I didn't care for her very much. She seemed to have too much hold on material things, but as the story progresses, we see how that is all she has ever known. We see amazing growth and development in her character, and see the kind and loving person she can be.
I have been a fan for Amanda Forester for quite some time but have only read a couple of her works. But when I saw The Highlander's Bride on the shelf, I knew I had to grab it up!! I love highlander romances, but this story line really hooked me in. Many who have read my reviews, know that I love a romance that has some adventure and historical context to it---or what is the point of historical romance???
Well, Amanda Forester has introduced us to a story that is full of historical facts and makes the reader get in touch with events that I knew very little of beforehand. Of course, I was always intrigued by the Hundred Years War, which was a conflict in the 1300's-1400's between England and France. Both sides had other groups of people aiding them in their fight. On France's side Scotland came to their aid (which considering how the English and the Scots felt about each other is no big surprise) The story sets off with seeing a battle between the English and the French and seeing a brave Scot save the life of a nobleman that is surrounded by English troops. There is courage and bravery in the hero of the story. He is eager to get back home and is willing to take on the duty of seeing Collette safely transferred to Scotland.
But the dangers along the way are difficult, and soon the reader is wrapped in a story of adventure, passion, and danger lurking in every corner. There is a pivotal moment in the story, which is where we see fabulous character development when the group comes upon a town that the English burned and pillaged and no one survived except an infant. Which then leads them to five children---all females. They manage to find homes for all of them except for Pippa and the baby. Pippa is outspoken, and has seen much in her small lifetime, but is brave and loving. I really enjoyed Pippa's influence on the story, because she refuses to marry just anyone. I like that she stands up for what is right and this influence is a turning point for Collette.
But even when they get to Scotland, their journey and struggles don't end there, there is something evil waiting for them and it will take working together and finding unexpected allies to hold onto the love that Gavin and Collette both feel for each other.
What a wonderful cover, I love the pose here. How strong and formidable it seems, but also has a soft and gentle look about it.
A Highlander's Bride is an emotionally driven story that takes us back in time through history, to a time of fighting for what is right. We see a love blossom against all odds, one that is full of strife, turmoil and adventure. A story that will stay with you for a long time. A SPELLBINDING LOVE STORY!!!

When An Alpha Purrs is the newest book release from this author…its the first of a new series, and in this installment we have the Alpha’s story. We do know that there will be atleast three books in this series. I love a great shifter romance, and even though this is a bit shorter than I was expecting…it was still enjoyable. This was such a enjoyable story, one that was short and sweet and very delectable. What I found most intriguing about this story, was seeing how Arik and Kira get along with each other…and boy was their bantering fun and sexy. They definitely have some sizzles and chemistry happening, but in the beginning we see the playfullness of their relationship…and boy Kira is fantastic, she sure knows how to bring a male down a peg or two from his arrogance. And below I wanted to share this most delicious excerpt so you can get a taste of how they react to each other…which is very similar to the rest of the story. But we also have a added elemnt, Kira has a ex wolf lover that is crazy, a stalker and has abused and tormented her in the past. She has been living on the run from him. But when she is put in danger…Arik goes into Alpha lion mode….and let no wolf stand in his way. Even though at times I felt like something was missing from this story (probably due to the short length) I found it quite a entertaining one, and had me bursting out in laughter…these two were a riot together. So this is perfect for a lazy afternoon…that is quick reading, entertaining and lively in humor and plot.
EXCERPT
“What do you mean Dominic isn’t here?” Arik didn’t quite raise his voice, and yet everyone in the barbershop heard him and noted his displeasure. Heads ducked, hands busied themselves snipping and styling, and no one dared meet his gaze.
If they were lion shifters, he would have said it was because they recognized his alpha status—say hello to the king of the concrete jungle. But these were only regular humans, people easily cowed by a man in an expensive suit with a commanding attitude.
Except for one.
“Granddad is out west.”
The woman’s reply had him spinning, and he inhaled sharply, which drew in more than just the scent of the barbershop. It drew in her tempting aroma—and stirred a hunger that had nothing to do with food.
Smells delicious. For a human.
Standing at just over five and a half feet, the woman barely reached his chin. She didn’t let her shortness deter her. Her head tilted. The chin raised, almost defiantly, as she met his stare. Brown eyes framed in dark lashes didn’t turn from his amber-hued ones.
Someone’s got spirit. But he didn’t have time to explore how far her attitude and bravery went. There were more important matters clamoring for his attention. Such as his poor, shaggy mane.
“What do you mean he’s out west? I have an appointment.” People didn’t cancel his appointments. Nor did they make him wait. The perks of being top of the heap.
“My Aunt Cecily had her baby early. He took some time off to go meet his new grandson.”
A decent excuse, but still… “But what about my hair?” That might have emerged more plaintively than he’d like. However, who could blame him? They were talking about his precious luxurious mane that required a regular trim lest the ends grow ragged, or, worse, a split end dared to make an appearance.
Vanity, one of his faults, along with arrogance and an unwillingness to budge.
“No need to worry, big guy. I’m taking over Granddad’s appointments while he’s gone.”
“You?” A girl, cut his hair? He couldn’t help but laugh, the idea too ridiculous to contemplate.
“I’m sorry. I fail to see the entertainment.”
“You can’t seriously expect me to trust my mane to a woman?” Sexism, alive and well in Arik’s world, the fault of the females in his pride who’d raised him. No coddling for Arik. They didn’t believe in letting him play with dolls or caving to others. His mother and aunts, not to mention his numerous female cousins, had taught him to be tough. They didn’t allow softness in his world, not when they groomed him as the future leader of their pride.
He was all male, all the time, and dammit, a man used a barber, not a hairdresser. Even if she was cute.
“Suit yourself. I’ve got more than enough men to take care of—”
Was that his cat growling?
“—without adding a pompous one to the list.”
“Pompous?” Even if she’d pegged him right, it didn’t stop his indignant glare.
A glare she chose to ignore. She crossed her arms over her chest, plumping her cleavage—ooh, pretty, shadowy cleft. His curious nature drew his eyes to the mysterious and beckoning vee until she cleared her throat.
“My eyes are up here, big guy.”
Caught. Good thing he was a cat. His kind had no shame, nor did they apologize. He shot her his most engaging, boyish grin. “My name is Arik. Arik Castiglione.”
She didn’t react to his smile or titles, so he elaborated, “The CEO for Castiglione Enterprises.” He stretched his lips wide enough to engage his deadly dimple.
And still failed to impress.
She raised a brow. “Is that supposed to mean something?”
Surely she jested. Within his mind, his poor lion lay down in a traumatized heap and crossed its paws over its eyes.
“We are the largest importer of meat in the world.”
Her shoulders lifted in a shrug. “I don’t check the label to see who brings me my steak. I just eat it.”
“What about our chain of restaurants? A Lion’s Pride Steakhouses.”
“Those I’ve heard of. Decent, I hear, but overpriced. I can get a bigger plate of food at LongHorn. And according to my girlfriends, the male waiters are cuter too.”
For once, Arik found himself at a loss for words. His lion on the other hand? His mane was definitely ruffled—and itching.
Arik had already gone two weeks longer than usual for this haircut because of an overseas business trip. Time to get back to his highest priority. “How long until Dominic is back?”
“A week, maybe two. I told him to take his time. Granddad doesn’t often take time off, and he’s getting up there in years.”
A few weeks? He’d look like a wildebeest if he waited that long. “That’s no good. I need a cut. Are there any male barbers available?”
“Afraid to let a girl touch your precious hair?” She smirked. “I can peek at the schedule and see if we can squeeze you in this afternoon.”
“I don’t have time to come back. I need it done now.”
Usually when he used the word now, people jumped to do his bidding. She, on the other hand, shook her head.
“Not happening, unless you’ve changed your mind and are willing to let me cut it.”
“You’re a hairdresser.”
“Exactly.”
“I want a barber.”
“Same thing.”
Said the girl without a Y chromosome. “I think I’ll wait.”
Arik turned away from her, only to freeze as she muttered, “Pussy.”
If she only knew how right she was. But, of course, she didn’t mean the feline version.
Pride made him pivot back. “You know what. On second thought, you may cut my hair.”
“How gracious of you, Your Majesty.” She sketched him a mock bow.
Not funny, even if accurate. He glared in reply.
“I see someone’s too uptight for a sense of humor.”
“I greatly enjoy comedy, when I hear it.”
“Sorry if my brand of sarcasm is too simple for you to understand, big guy. Now, if you’re done, sit down so we can get this over with and send you and your precious hair back to your office.”
A woman giving him orders? Not uncommon when a male lived surrounded by them. But actually obeying, that was new – and in this case, unavoidable.
Head held regally high, Arik took the proffered seat, putting his back to the female, but he could still watch her in the mirror and track her by scent. Coconut lotion, fabric softener, and musky woman. All woman.
My woman. Want to taste.
His lion grumbled in hunger. Odd because Arik had eaten a hearty breakfast, even wrestling his beta, Hayder, for the last two pieces of bacon.
The hairdresser swirled a fabric cape around his upper body, swathing him in protection against snipped tickly bits. So far the same as usual, except Dominic’s mere presence never had Arik’s body so aware. The light touch of her fingers at his nape as she fastened the Velcro closure caused all the hairs on his body to stiffen. And they weren’t the only thing standing at attention.
Before he could wonder at his reaction, she withdrew her hand and busied herself with her tray of instruments. Razor, scissors, brush, comb. But forget the manly black colors a barber would use. Her tools were pink and black, zebra striped.
The indignity of it. He almost said something but held his tongue, only because he could see her watching and waiting for it in the mirror. As if he’d give her the satisfaction. This cat held his own tongue—for now.
The hairdresser sifted her fingers through his long strands, lifting and studying the various layers Dominic usually cut into it. Unlike many businessmen, Arik preferred to keep his golden mane somewhat long. Funny how many of his lovers had told him it gave him a leonine appearance—if only they knew the truth.
“How much are we taking off?”
As little as possible, given he still didn’t trust her. “About a half inch or so. Just even up the ends.” That should tide him over until Dominic returned.
“Are you sure?” She frowned at his crown, as she held long strands up. “You look like you could use at least two inches off, if not more.”
How did she know? Arik usually kept his mane to a civilized length that just touched the top of his collar.
“I’m sure.”
“You know, a man your age really should have a more mature cut. The shaggy surfer style is more suited to young guys.”
He dug his fingers into the armrest and fought not to growl. “I like my hair like this.”
“Suit yourself. I was just saying you’d look better with a shorter cut.”
Shave his precious mane? Never! “Do you always argue with your clients?”
Her eyes met his in the mirror, and he wasn’t surprised to see a smile lurking at the corners of her lips. “Only when they’re wrong.”
That surprised a bark of laughter from him. Despite his irritation with the situation, and her outspoken nature, he grudgingly liked Dominic’s granddaughter. “Very well. You may cut it a little shorter than a half inch. But not much shorter. I do not want to end up scalped.”
“For a man your age and in your position, you are way too obsessed with your hair,” she muttered as she bound sections of his mane with hairclips. Not exactly his most manly look.
Arik kept a close watch for anyone with a camera or cell phone. Dare to take a pic and he’d probably go furry.
Okay, he wouldn’t go furry in public, but he sure as hell would extract retribution. CEOs of billion-dollar corporations had an image to maintain, and pink hair clips holding his hair at crazy angles didn’t exactly fit it.
“How come I’ve never met you before?” Dominic had paraded a great number of his children and grandchildren through his barber shop over the years.
Attention focused on her hands, which wielded a set of scissors, she answered. “I don’t visit often. I live out in the Midwest with my mom and dad. I was actually working at a hair salon out there until it shut down, and Granddad offered me a job here.”
“You just packed up and moved?”
“Why not?” She released a layer of hair, and the scissors kept snipping. Golden bits flittered to the floor, and Arik tried to not tense. There was just as much hair strewn as when Dominic cut it. She seemed to know her business when it came to using scissors, but for some reason, he couldn’t shake his unease.
“Women should stay close to family.” His female family members certainly did, despite his best efforts to pawn them off onto other tribes and cities. Hell, he’d even tried to bribe some of his more rascally cousins with the promise of condos on other continents. However, the lionesses in his pride were content. A sign he was a good leader, but annoying as it meant they were constantly putting their whiskered noses in his business.
And they also loved to play matchmaker.
“When are you going to give us some cubs?” Not a day went by that he didn’t hear this.
“I’ve got a friend I want you to meet.” Fun for a night, until the next day when his cousin hammered him to make some kind of commitment.
The hairdresser reacted to his statement about a woman’s place with a snort. “Get with the times, big guy. We’re no longer strapped to a kitchen or forced into arranged marriages. We even get to vote. Girls nowadays often move away from home and have jobs. Or at least this one does.”
He couldn’t help but wince as she gave a decisive snip to his mane. So far, everything looked good. Yet he could have sworn ominous music hummed at the edges of his mind, feeding a certain dread he’d never admit aloud.
Scared of this woman and her scissors? Never. And his lion reinforced this with a very masculine rawr.
Still though, she’d essentially accused him of being a chauvinist. He explained himself. “I did not mean to sound misogynistic. I merely stated that women often find comfort in having family around them.”
“I do have family here.”
“Touché.” Then he couldn’t have said what prompted him to ask, “What of your boyfriend? I’m sure he’s not pleased at your abrupt departure.”
She paused and stared at him in the mirror. “Is this your not-so-subtle way of asking if I’m single?”
“Was I being subtle? Let me rephrase then. Do you have a lover?” He’d challenge him to a duel if she did and—
Hold on a second. He wasn’t challenging anyone, especially not the human boyfriend of a hairdresser he’d just met.
Just met, and yet wanted.
The realization made him frown. Time to hit the dating circuit again if a plump and mouthy human girl was capable of making him irrational. It didn’t help that his lion urged him to rub against her and mark her with their scent—to keep other males away.
Not happening. Marking any kind of female was bound to create complications. Arik wasn’t about to settle down or commit himself. He was in his prime. Playing the field.
Flirting with a hairdresser who set his hairs on end—and brought his erotic senses alive.
The things I could do to her. Nibbles on her creamy skin… Nips at that luscious lower lip, which pulled taut as she frowned at him and said, “First off, I don’t think my love life is any of your business.” Snip. “Second. Even if I were single, I wouldn’t date you.” Snip. Snip.
“Why not?” He could have blinked in astonishment when the query emerged from his mouth. However, a curious kitty needed to know. Women just didn’t say no. It wasn’t arrogant of him to claim it, not when it was fact.
Rejection was not something he encountered. Until now.
“Are you seriously having to ask why I won’t date you?” She sounded so incredulous. “Would you like me to recite the list alphabetically?”
Actually, he did. “Let’s hear it.”
Not even a pause. “Asshat. Braggart. Cocky tied with chauvinist. Dumbass. Egotistical. Do I really need to go on?”
A chuckle rumbled forth from him—again. What was it about this woman that delighted him? She kept arguing and defying him at every turn, and yet he couldn’t help but find her amusing. She utterly intrigued him, especially as he tried to guess what she’d say next. How refreshing to come across a female that wasn’t related to him, or impressed by him, who dared to treat him as a man.
One she considered beneath her standards.
“I think your list needs tweaking.” He launched a defense of his character.
“Oh really? And just how do you see yourself? I’m sure this will be good.”
“Let me see. Attractive, bold, courageous, daring, elegant, ferocious, especially as a lover,” he admitted with a wink. “Gallant.”
With a derisive snort, she interrupted. “Ha. I highly doubt that.”
“And yet you don’t really know me. My lady friends would tell you that I am a gentleman.” When it came to opening doors and picking up the check. Other than that, there was nothing gentle about him. Just ask those who crossed him.
Kings didn’t let anyone question their authority.
“I wouldn’t know, though, about this supposed gallantry, because I’m not your lady friend.”
“You could be.” He gave her another chance. She truly did draw him in with the roundness of her figure, hugged by faded denim and topped with a baggy sweatshirt that drooped enticingly off a shoulder, baring a black strap.
Lace or cotton? A feline mind wanted to know.
But apparently he wouldn’t know today, as she, yet again, managed to resist him.
“Date you? Not likely.”
Again words emerged from him without volition. “Why not?”
“Oh please. I’ve seen enough to know you’re not my type.”
Such a liar. Apparently he wasn’t the only one aroused by their repartee. The musky scent of her arousal tickled his senses. It made him bolder. “I guarantee when I’m between your thighs and you’re clawing my back, you’ll be screaming a different tune.”
So he might have come on a tad strong with that last statement. That was still no excuse for what happened next.
“Pig.” However it wasn’t the animal insult that was her most grievous crime. It was the gigantic hunk of hair she snipped off!
An irreplaceable, thick chunk of his hair permanently removed. Accidental or intentional, it didn’t matter.
Ack! My mane. My beautiful, precious mane.
He couldn’t help a low rumbling growl. His eyes glinted in the mirror, the gold catching the light and reflecting it, along with his fury.
“You. Did. Not. Just. Do. That.” And yes, he might have growled the last bit.
“Oops? Did I do that? Sorry.” Said with no repentance at all. With a smirk and a blown kiss, she let her crime rain down over him in a golden, threaded shower.
And then, she ran.

I have always been a huge fan of Ana Leigh, her books are charming and fun and full of adventure and steamy passion. Although its been quite some time since I have read anything from her, I was really excited to read this one. Now I was able to obtain a digital copy from Open Library. Now first off this copy was such fun to read. Because its basically a digital scanned copy of the paperback book, so its almost like having the real book with the color of real paper in my NOOK (which is kinda neat) and I just love older romances and its been a little while since I have read one that was such a stimulating read and reminded me why I miss the style of the older romances.
This story is set in the late 1770's, right before the revolutionary war begins. We see the stirrings of rebellion against the British, and as a avid history lover, this totally had me full on fascinated. It is very apparent that the author did some detailed research before writing this book. Personally I just love reading romances from the Colonial period, but it is happening less frequently (which is sad to me) since its one of my favorite sub genres in historical romance. It starts out with Stephen and Patricia first meeting and kissing right off the bat because the chemistry between them is sizzling hot! Even though in the beginning they really don't like each other all that much. Then we see them dare each other into this bet, which leads Patricia to be by Stephens side for quite some time. I don't want to spoil too much so I won't reveal too much information, however this read took me on one helluva ride. One adventure after another, and I enjoyed seeing another short romance that develops into two sub characters who totally won my heart. We have Thomas and Barbara. Thomas is Stephens second in command on his ship. And Barbara is a distant cousin, but more like a sister. Barbara is always getting into one scrape and taking Patricia along with her, and of course Patricia gets in trouble with Stephen right? Now those parts were so entertaining and scandalous and irresistibly fun to see. I definitely had no hardship delving into this story. There was quite a few conflicts to the story that only added more to it, a bit more deeper plot and drags you along (whether you like it or not LOL). From Boston, to Virginia, to the seas, and all the way down to Jamaica.
Stephen is very ALPHA, very controlling at times, but there was also a vulnerability to him, and I enjoyed seeing the tender side of him as well as you progress into their relationship further. He can be very brooding at times, and beyond stubborn (it was almost a bit frustrating) He liked everything his way, and let nothing stand in his way. Patricia is the spitfire type, very strong willed, and independent and aches for adventure. She is always getting into trouble here and there, and Stephen always ends up rescuing her from her follies, and even though furious with her, doesn't stay mad for long.
Overall a sensual and powerfully written story that takes you on a adventure of a lifetime. Sizzling chemistry, enticing characters, and a plot filled with conflict, adventure, danger, and above all an intense love story that will endear you forever. Well done Ana Leigh!!!SENSATIONAL!!!!!!!!

Melania is a roman, after her villa is attacked and her father killed she is taken captive by Wulfred, a Saxon warrior. Wulfred despises the Romans, after suffering great at their hands he vows vengence. Killing and rampaging any Roman in his way, as it is with his fellow Saxon's. However when he is faced with this Roman beauty, she is different and is definitely intrigued. At first Melania is bitter again Wulfred, always standing up to him in a very violent way. As time continues however, there is a sensual connection that fires up between the two. But who will conquer who? Will love be the conquering will power in their bonding?
I found that as much as I loved the cover and the book description however this wasn't a book that I enjoyed to the extent that I had a hard time reading it at time. Melania even though there were times that I enjoyed her personality, at the beginning of this book, I found her to have a very violent nature, and I had a difficult time liking this heroine. I think the time that I started to like her is when she started to gentle her nature toward Wulfred. Wulfred is pure alpha male, and I found him endearing, despite his domineering manner. Of course considering the fact that he is a commander in the Saxon army and what he has suffered in the past, but if amused by Melania's actions at certain times. Although there were times that I really enjoyed this love story that blossoms between two enemies, there were still some parts that I struggled with and it seemed like it didn't flow smoothly all the way through. But it was a good romance and had some enlightening aspects that was amusing and heated at times.
