I have conflicting feelings about this book. It interested me as a reader. I wanted to know what was going on and what really happened the night Megan went missing. I liked the idea of Rachel not remembering what happened and struggling with trying to remember. It also interested me as a writer. The multiple perspectives told at different times really put an edge of suspense to the story. It was also interesting to view a story through some really flawed characters. And every character in this novel is majorly flawed. Now, there were also many things I didn't like about the book. First, I guessed the ended fairly early in the novel and dismissed it as being too obvious. So, I was disappointed that the person responsible for Megan's disappearance was who I originally thought it was. While I mentioned the flawed characters as an interesting thing, it was also something I didn't like. Rachel did many things that I just didn't understand. I wanted to shake her a few times and tell her to stop. Megan was just as frustrating. But the character I liked the least was Anna. I had such a bad reaction to her that when her chapters started I almost stopped reading the book. Here is someone who actively dated a married man and was proud that she did, even going as far as feeling as though she won the game of getting Tom. Just about everything about her made me angry. This novel, I want to say, is about the women (since they are the narrators) but really it is all about the men. The women are all dependent upon the men in the story and neither of them are interesting, nice, or likable at all.
All in all, the concept was good, the mystery was good but the ending wasn't a surprise to me and the characters are too deeply flawed to be considered likable by the reader.

I was late to the Harry Potter scene having only read the books less than 10 years ago but I liked the series. This play, however, I'm not the greatest fan of. It was nice to see the characters older and to see their children. The time traveling was interesting but it all felt rushed to me. I know it's a play and not a novel so there is limited time but I would have liked to see more development. All in all, a good read for a devoted fan but not the most complex or developed plot.

A good reread from when I was in hs. It's interesting to compare modern ya to this though.

While I liked the characters, I felt that Maddie was too slow to make up her mind. Especially since she kissed Jax the first day she met him. Their relationship was fast and slow at the same time. It was cute that the next two books were set up in this one and I will still read the other books in the series.

I wanted to like this book solely for the fact that I loved 13 Reasons Why. But I just couldn't. The characters were all flat and not interesting. They seemed much younger than their ages even. The town wasn't even interesting. There were so many places this book could have been better. Disappointed.

First I have to thank Jaycee for the recommendation! This is my new favorite novel. I loved the structure with the time flipping back and forth. I loved the connections between the characters. The characters themselves were great and seeing how the world ended was heartbreaking and terrifying. The thing I liked most was the actual writing, however. The prose was almost perfect at times with a sad yet hopeful tone. Just amazing.

Quick read. Interesting use of second person. "how to become a writer" has to be my favorite.
