When I saw the preview for the movie version of Nerve, I was very excited to read the book. The movie looks fast paced and thrilling with a bit of romance added in. The book....was not. Nerve was pretty boring at times. Even the dares the characters did weren't that interesting. No blind motorcycling or running in your underwear. The book had to explain things a lot as well. There was way more telling and less showing. This novel would have benefited from being told in third person. Vee was boring and spent most of the book talking about how she shouldn't be doing any of this and then mad at herself for doing but yet still doing it. Very frustrating to read that. Also, the romance between Vee and Ian was way too fast and superficial. You don't find out anything about him. They don't have a heart to heart yet they seemingly fall in love. Not a good read, but I am still going to check out the movie.
Pretty good installment to the series. I like the relationship that Claire has with Shane and his book gave me a bit of growth with them that was needed. Shane is still very immature but then again so is Claire. But, the storyline of Shane being seduced into a fight club brings about a new look at their relationship after the resolution. I'm not a fan of the direction of Eve and Michael's relationship, however. They are young and need to just be together for a while, but they seem to be jumping into a dangerous new level of their relationship. The character I am liking more and more is Myrnin. I just know they will never put him and Claire together but it would be interesting to explore that.
This book had ups and downs for me. What happened to Claire was interesting but made me sad that she took a path that I thought would have been interesting for her and all of the characters. The multiple perspectives are interesting but I wish they weren't in 1st person. That throws me off. But, there is an interesting new villain that I want to see how they can defeat.
I still don't like the rotation of 1st and 3rd person and I think that was my biggest problem with this book. The continuation of the story from the previous book was interesting but I didn't like how so many characters did and said things against his or her character. There was also some wording that bothered me. I wanted to switch some words around when reading. Besides Shane's trauma I didn't feel as though some of the characters really developed in this installment. Just a bit disappointed in this one.
This is my least favorite if the series. There wasn't much of a plot line for me to really cling to. There was the ongoing one with Naomi but there wasn't enough structure to that. And then there was the subplot line about the ghosts but that bored me the most. I like that Claire and Shane finally have a bump in the road that she doesn't forgive. I've been waiting for that because Claire was starting to seem desperate to be honest. She clings to this guy who is not a great boyfriend and forgives him at the drop of a hat for horrible actions. She could do better to be honest and I wish that there was someone better for her to be attracted to. While I would live to see her explore a relationship with myrnin, especially after this book, I know it would never work. It might. Hangs him for the better but Claire really needs someone way better than the love interests that she is given. I'm not thrilled with the vampire storyline either. I can see where the series is coming to an end soon.
Funny enough this book gave me some of the things I was looking for with this series. Claire gets out of morganville and experiences a new life. Buy, it still didn't give me everything. It seems like nothing can break up Claire and Shane but I've come to terms with it. Onto the last...
There were a few things very off for me with this book. The timing is the biggest. I wanted more time between this book and the one before it to really see the change in the town. It felt like cheating that all of this great stuff happened on only a few short days. The pacing I the novel reminded me of the beginning of the series where there was random and very fast action with some very slow bits mixed in. I really didn't like the resolution of Claire and Shane's relationship. That moved way too fast for me. Let them be young and In love and not have to have a lifetime commitment. While I enjoyed this series it is not my favorite. I wanted this lol sat novel to be much better than it was. I didn't like the fact that Claire helped the vampires gain control again and I hated the idea of Fallon and a cure. There were better stories that could have been told for the finale.
