Karin Slaughter is a brilliant thriller author! Usually I do not like long books and I attribute them to being over detailed and boring. Similar to how I don’t appreciate people who take 10 years to finish a story that could have been told in a shorter amount of time. But! I am guilty of being long winded myself; however, slaughter wrote this book with brevity and precision. Each story she told connected to an another story and further explained a questions that the reader may want answered. I loved this book! She is a must ADD thriller writer/author to your reading list/collection! Looks like I may be expanding my 100 books goal for the year of 2018! Pay attention to Paul! You might miss something! This book also comes with another book as well! Guess what I’m reading next?!?
Mata Hari is a woman that experienced a large number of fame, trails, and tribulations. Although she was set up and was caught in "mischief;" it was sad that a woman who decided to choose herself and her sexuality get punished for living her best life. Society has a way of making examples out of the innocent or daring. Mata Hari, I salute you!
Wow! That was a great book with lots of twists that I was not expecting. I want to watch the TV show now!
Wow! This book had me hooked from the beginning to the end. If you are looking for a murder mystery get into this book.
I was really excited to read this book. I found the book to be more fulfilling and detailed than the movie. I usually do not read and watch books that get turned into movies because I get upset if the details aren’t exactly like they are in the books. Irrational I know, but no one said that I was perfect.
I didn’t quite understand why so much was changed in the movie that did not follow the path in the book. In the book, Lyra was told her biological mother, Marisa Coulter that she was her mother. However, in the book, John Faa told her. In the movie, Lyra didn’t make it to her dad, Lord Asriel. However, in the book, she did make it see Lord Asriel and he was cruel to her.
My favorite scene in the movie was when Serafina Pekkala came down to speak to Lyra when she was at the top of the boat alone. However, in the book, Serafina Pekkala’s demon came to see her but it wasn’t there to see Lyra but to see John Faa.
Also, I was expecting a more detailed account of how the last bear king died in the book. However, the book revealed that King Iorfur Rakinson killed his dad and not Iorek Byrnison dad, as the movie portrayed.
The Golden Compass left me feeling uneasy. In the movie, Roger went to sleep and agreed to help Lyra “make things right.” However, in the book Roger dies. In the book, Lyra and her demon decide to stop her father from stopping dust from being in the universe.
I was not expecting what happened between Lyra’s parents, Lord Asriel and Marisa Coulter. I won’t spoil that for you!
Lyra whining constantly throughout the book gave me an uneasy feeling like Harry Potter but I will push through and try to finish this series.
Although I felt like I was reading one story and watched another story in the movie, I found them both to be entertaining. If I was you, I would read the book and skip the movie or vice versa. I do not know what direction the movie is going on.

If you want to read something that is constantly melancholy with small spurts of happiness that will eventually put you in tears! Read this!
As always I am a true fan of Karin Slaughter! For years I have been looking for another thriller author to describe scenes and elicit emotions like Dee Davis. In this book Charlie intrigued me the most because although she wasn’t feeling well before she took on Flora’s case, she still interviewed the families to seek the truth. Although Charlie’s family is complicated and so is her life, she still worries and aims for justice. It says a lot about who she is than what she does.
In typical Karin Slaughter fashion, right when you think you figured out who is manipulating who, she tricks you, and it is the person you least expected.
I just wish the book was longer.

I spent a lot of time trying to read this book! I loved Lahiri book In other words so much that I didn’t want to read another one of her books. The break up was going to be too much to bear. This book was very detailed, sometimes too detailed. I often found myself knowing the ending to each story and she hinted at how the situations would pan out. I wish she wasn’t so detailed throughout the book but that doesn’t mean that I didn’t enjoy the character development. The character development was so well written that I thought that I was Gogol. I felt that I too was going through his pain, happiness, and struggles. He tried so hard to remove himself from who he was and it did not matter in the end. His new name never quite felt quite like his own although he went through great measures to hide the name Gogol from the world.
While reading this book, I understood more why most of my friends who are from other parts of the world have two names. I began to understand why some of those names are said in certain contexts and some are not. Versus in the U.S.A, you can use your nickname and name interchangeably and no one will bat an eye. I believe that Gogol had to go through all that he went through in order to fully accept himself and his family.
Again, I didn’t want this book to end. It was like a warm blanket that I didn’t want to move from under.

Reading this book, I felt like I was inside the case. I have seen first hand how our justice system and jail or to imprison innocent people and no matter how innocent they are people will still believe that the person(s) were guilty. This was a true story and Ron especially touched my heart. Mental Illness gets overlooked too often in the prison system. We need to do better to help others who are mentally ill. Most important, officers of the law need to learn how to look into all the evidence before nailing someone for a crime they did not commit.
I was very disappointed at how Anne died. I was hoping for the better. I couldn’t imagine how a person if such a tender age can be both reflective and set in their ways. She had her entire life ahead of her didn’t get to live it fully. Currently try to write in my journal as if I am also writing to Kitty.
