Listen I don’t normally read Stephen King books but I was intrigued by the cover and the story. I am definitely looking forward to reading part two. The art is in graphic novel was so beautiful and scary.

This story follows a virus that is only attacking women called the “Aurora Virus.” This virus attacks all people who identifies as a woman. I thought the sections about gender inclusivity and expression was something I never saw done by King. I was happy to see it. There is a woman name Black who is being investigated by law officials and civilians because she does not seem to be affected by the virus. The virus attacks women when they are sleep, cobwebs surrounds their bodies, and they wake up in magical place to find the mother tree. I loved the concept and it felt too real seeing as though we are in a pandemic at the moment.

The offensive language continues to drop the rating of the overall comic for me. However, I am waiting for volume 5 because the story is picking up and we are learning more about Hazel and her parents at this time. One of the characters is on a killing spree and I can’t help but to ask myself “was that even necessary?”

This is one of those books that you get caught up in with how beautiful the writing is. I did feel like the book was dragging on a bit a points but I felt that all the information stated needed to be said. I was rooting for two of the characters in the book. There was so many quotable moments in the books. I found the book to be very well written and lyrical story.

I truly enjoying reading book that feature Black men as a mediums. I found this story to uniquely told from two POVs. This book follows the story of a young queer Black boy who is a medium of sorts. Also a ghost or malicious spirit who is intended on driving people into chaos. The story follows the struggles of being queer in high school, physical abuse being Black in high school, shitty parents, working parents, and sexual assaulters who live in the home. What I enjoyed the most about this story was the authors ability to combine both stories and made it mandatory that you needed the other story to understand the other.

I find myself so angry with the two main characters, Jessica and David to be exact. I don’t know if I would ever forgive David if I was Jessica, no matter if I had living blood or not. My heart went out to Fauna. She didn’t deserve what happened to her and I can understand the fear that she had towards the end of the book.

I found it kind of circle of life while reading this book. Although hundreds of years went by, the human lives the immortals touched was felt for generations to come. I am curious to know what will happen to Fauna.

Buckle up folks! It's giving hood fantastical realism and I am here for it. Did I just make up a genre? Yes, because Black people are magical and we make up things all the time. I am team JULIUS! I SAID WHAT I SAID, ARGUE WITH YA MAMMY! I loved the writing in this book. I love how J.Elle wrote about how Black people give each other the eye without writing that exchange on page. Yes, it giving us hood nuances and I love too see it. I want more hood exchanges in book two. I am waiting patiently for book two.

I must say that Rue has a lot to prove to me because I felt like some of her moves made me think that she was choosing white kinship/friendship over her root magic/ancestors. When history has taught us that, that is not always a safe choice. I felt like she should have caught the hint when her father and the tribeman was giving each other the eye when she wanted to tell her friend Bree about history of the magic. I felt like she put too much trust into Bree. I am still distrustful of Bree and Luke (don't get me started, he is a snake in the grass).

As of now, my two favorite characters are Rue's little sister and the grandma. When grandma said "was it the gumbo?" I said "granny, you know it ain't the gumbo."

Chapter 38 took me out and put me in tears. I wish I could spoil that for you. But, I will not. But, I will leave you with this
