I almost DNF (do not finish) or PFN (pause for now) this book. I decided to continue on. The book really picked up on the later half of the book. I don't think I have ever read a character (female sleuth) who is as dynamic Mrs. Russell. I truly enjoy this reimagining of Sherlock Holmes.

This was such a beautiful story of how two houses come together. This volume was queer, and I was living for every moment of it. The way the author drew the graphics in and out of time was brilliantly done. If you want more info about my thoughts, the link is below.

Reading "When the Reckoning Comes" elicited a lot of emotions. I was so intrigued with how the story was written than the actual context. I believe there was so much care taken in writing this story that enhanced my reading experience. There were content warnings of sexual violence; although the graphics were there, the graphicness of the context was NOT on paper.
This is a story of a young Black girl who is friends with a neighborhood Black boy and a White girl. Quickly these children are taught some harsh lessons in life. As they grew older, some regret and creepy stuff were happening to them, causing them to return to where it all began, a plantation with many memories.

On of my favorite Horror comic series. I enjoy learning more and more about Erica Slaughter and her humanity. To be honest, I question the humanity of the other people in House of Slaughter.

....sincerely, your Leo....
Wow! I needed this book. I love a book that has a format that is different than other thrillers of it's time. This is a story of how two people from two different parts of the work began to share things and attempt to further their careers. I want you to know it is much deeper than that. I want to prepare you for the format of this book. It follows the story of a man name Leo who is helping a woman who is a writer in Australia finish her manuscript. Her manuscript is about a woman who was killed in a library and people around her is trying to figure out the mystery of her death.
The format of this book is in the form of letters that they (Leo and the woman) are sending to each other. In between those letters are actual chapters of the book that is set where Leo lives (Boston). The woman is asking Leo for advice about each chapter of her book and asking Leo to give her information about Boston American culture so that her characters are authentic. In short, after the end a chapter from "woman in the libray" Leo give very insightful input about the chapter and how to make the chapters more thrilling.
The book starts out with a woman who died in a library and she screamed. Investing that scream and the possibility of people being devious is something the main character inside the "woman in the library" novel must figure out. I know this may seem confusing but I promise you, oddly enough it was easy to follow and flowed soooooo well. I can't wait to read more from this author in the future.
Just know that you may be confused of who the killer is for a large part of the book. Which I loved. Or maybe you are more cleaver than I and are able to figure it out via context clues. Either way the mystery, suspense, and thrilling elements of this book was top tier.

I’m intrigued and can’t wait to start book two and couldn’t find any information about book two online. As a person from New Orleans and involved in some of the cultural aspects in this book, I had questions but finally this is take that I am not completely offended about this. I honestly like this amateur sleuth who is a Hoodoo spiritual person who is trying to help her community, step in her truth, and understand the culture. It was a great take if you ask me.

Sometimes you have to abandon other people‘s rules in order to set your own path. Erica is doing exactly that and making sure that she’s helping these children. I don’t know what this order is doing, but I can’t say that I like it.
