This series just keeps getting better and better. The character development in the novel is unmatched! Usually books with dream elements don’t hit for me but this book was the exception to the rule. I can’t wait to continue this series.

This book plays on and then there was known with how the the story is set up and being in an isolated place. I thought the mystery was done really well and thought that best friend duo was one of the most powerful parts of the book.

This was done very well. I love how Nalo tells a single story for so many different perspective and in a very unique way. I believe we were to look at the lives and hardships of folks during chattel slavery and supposedly freedom. I think each character was essential to move the plot forward and to show the reader how different people can experience something they have in common. I felt bad for the character who was a mistress to Charles. I felt bad for the spirit who just wanted to strive but thought their body hacking ways lead them to putting women in situations that was 100% consensual. I felt bad for the daughter who had for live with another woman because her step father didn’t want her. I felt for the young biracial girl who wanted her child to survive. There were moments in the book where I saw my relatives in the characters and their hardship.

Listen, I think that evie is finally growing on me. I felt bad for what Jericho did to her in this book but I thought it was brave of her for how she handled it. Sam character took a sharp turn and as of now I don’t know what to think of that turn. Mabel! Oh Mabel! It was also lovely to see the changes in the relationship between Theta and Memphis younger brother. I feel like everyone roles and spiritual involvement will increase in book four and I can’t wait to get into it.

The only things that threw me off with the book was the pace, abrupt end of some of the chapters, and some other parts that would be spoilers. What was the best parts or the book was the cultural elements, the knowledge about the entity who was causing havoc and how the main character piloted her revenge.

This is a beautiful story of how your family and community can cast you away if you are different and can feel and see things others can’t. Only for it to be passed down in the family and the younger generation learns to pick up the torch! I loved the complications of the relationships of Nena and Martha. I loved their honesty with each other. I wanted to fight Nena’s sister and that raggedy ass man she had.

DID NOT FINISH

30% and I don't know what's going and I don't care to know what's going on. The pace and story is too slow for me. I am in the mood for something with more action.

Omgosh!! This was so cute. It highlights that you can be beautiful and smart too, and just because you are one doesn't mean that you aren't the other! Love this so much.
inspiring fast-paced

I think this is a great book for young children to read with their parents because there are some concepts and words mentioned in the book that would need further explanation. Like molecules, MRI. sediment lines, gravity...etc, however, I think this is the perfect book to get young readers to start thinking about what they want to be when they grow up and to ask questions about the professions. I loved the questions and how they focused on what a person will be doing daily. When I was a child, I wish people had honestly told me about the day-to-day work instead of the parts of the job that are glorified, because I would have made a more informed decision about my current career choice.

I loved this book and look forward to continuing the series. I loved how the book was structured and how Evie and the serial killer played cat and mouse for most of the book, until the end. I think the structure of the book was, in fact, my favorite part. The writing was great, and the character development was done exceptionally well, with a conscious representation of people of color in the novel.

I look forward to reading more from this author. The reason this isn't a 5-star read is that the main character, Evie, is annoying AF.
