Idk what to think… this was good until the end? 

The politics were kind of interesting but aren’t really her main focus… maybe that changes with the next book but I think that’s what makes this idea interesting.

The love scenes aren’t very good to be honest, and the author does absolutely nothing to make me think Claire should’ve ever gone back to Frank so that entire plot in the beginning was kind of annoying. The witch thing was weird too. Too much was happening that didn’t relate overly? Idk, I’ll keep reading but it was just okay. 

No dragons, lots of fish though.

Camila is the star of this book in my opinion, the way she’s woven in is what I like most about it!

The story itself was kind of eh but I enjoyed the ending and the phone call with Poseidon about small waves. 

I don’t have a ton of thoughts about this book, it was fine? Good enough to keep going, but not interesting enough for me to be like IN it.

What a fantastic ending.

Sanderson never ceases to amaze me with the small details that end up becoming huge plot points such as Vin’s earring, it is just so very well done. 

By the end Sazed and TenSoon were my favorite characters. Sazed ending up the hero of ages was honestly just beautiful, it felt so real, especially with the prompting of Spook earlier in the book to remind Sazed how powerful knowledge can be. TenSoon’s fight to get to Vin and still never reaching her was really sad for me, I wish they had had one final moment together, but I do love how he fought for her without her ever knowing it. 

Vin and Elend dying feels right. They both did what they could for their people and in the end had they lived it would’ve felt too neat, I think their ending, while sad, is the best choice Sanderson could’ve made for them.

Fantastic book, no dragons though.

I thought this one was more fun and less serious than the first! Interested to see what happens next. 

“Dragon” used to describe women, but no real dragons

his is the rare occasion where the movie is truly better than the book!

The book is enjoyable but the opulence of the rich families is just much better illustrated in the movie. On top of that the ending of this book is not as good as the ending of the movie! 

Dragons are in this? Like statues of dragons, so kind of? 

This book has received criticism recently specifically from people claiming they are angry that this author dare write a “retelling” of the odyssey without ever having read the odyssey. I am here to tell you that this book is NOT a retelling of the odyssey, so the anger seems very misplaced? I do understand the odyssey plays a role in the curse this book is about, but that does NOT make this a “retelling.” Anyone claiming that simply hasn’t read the book.

This book is valuable for young readers because it demonstrates bisexuality in a loving way. Leto is not berated for loving a girl, and she is not berated for loving a boy. She simply just does. There is no discussion about the morality of being attracted to both, and I find this a refreshing read especially for younger audiences who may be struggling with their identities.

The story itself is a sad one for sure, and I believe this author has room to grow. But for such a young person to write a book like this it is extremely impressive. I was never bored, it was entertaining, and the end breaks your heart in a beautiful way. 

Ultimately, if you’re hesitating to read this book because some people seem to be on their high horse about the author, I suggest moving on? Author criticism are real and valid but this one just seems snarky and stupid. Read the book if you’re interested and don’t take much away from the weirdos who think this is a retelling.
