This book dragged more than the other two, all for the conclusion to feel a bit rushed. It wasn’t bad, so I’m glad I finished the series but it did feel a bit lack luster compared to the rest. Most of the book everyone is spending their time just being depressed and tortured… it was hard to get through. 

There are dragons in this one though, kind of randomly.

I don’t have a lot to say about this book, I gave it three stars because it was entertaining enough, but clearly not written overly well? I feel like the best way to describe it is “meh.” I never felt like it was bad and I needed to stop reading but I also never felt like I just HAD to keep going.

Oh damn this was so good, the ending really just was so explosive. The middle did drag on a bit with the politicking, but it had a point so it was still enjoyable to read. 

I love love love the development of Vin and Elend’s relationship, and I particularly loved Sazed’s help with them reaching their conclusions about one another. 

Of everyone in this book, I loved Sazed the most, the way Sanderson writes him is phenomenal. A humble, charismatic and honest man. It just gives me joy to read his portions. I hope the next book brings him some self fulfillment since everything he’s ever believed has come crashing down in this. 

I also particularly loved the character TenSoon. His relationship with Vin was so interesting to watch develop, and I love his willingness to trust in her, I hope he makes a reappearance in the next book.

Last… that ENDING!! So good, Sanderson really left us all on a cliff hanger, one I’m not sure many saw coming until the very end as well. The waking of some ancient evil, the deepness getting worse, Elend getting powers? A+++ 

Still no dragons though.

I did enjoy this book because it was engaging and at no point did I feel like I knew where the plot was going, but it is hundreds of pages of set up to get to the unfolding of what I’m assuming the next few books are about. “The Darkness.” The idea of the next few books is much more intriguing to me, the lord ruler being the big bad in this one and getting to kill a member of the crew before Vin gets to him was annoying to me, although I understand it. Hoping that all pays off in the next few.

This book is truly just written so well, it immediately pulled me in.

Addie’s story is such a testament to life being worth it, through the hardships and through the joys, there is always something to hold onto, always something worth living for. Henry’s story demonstrates this as well, just differently, their intertwining stories were so interesting. 

I really enjoyed this book, it was so well thought out and just truly lovely. 

Sanderson writes this book in a way where I often find myself smiling and chuckling at little insignificant points. While the plot itself is rather predictable the writing keeps it fun and light. Would highly recommend this book to anyone in a reading slump!

This was a fun read, although it did take a second to get into it because the beginning just confused me a bit with the jumping in time but it all shakes out to make sense in the end, although I’m still confused about how Eliana and Simon end up centuries later than Rielle.

The book was good though, I really enjoyed reading this one and will definitely be moving on to book 2! 

This book was good! I think the set up for the next one was well done and the future books have the potential to be better since this one is well written but fairly predictable.

This book gives the same energy as Hunger Games, Divergent, and Shadow and Bone, very similar vibes.

I don’t have tons of thoughts on the plot of this book, it was just super fun to read. At no point did I think Violet would die simply because the book kept going obviously but the growth moments for her felt very real.

The end was really really good, I will remain continually heartbroken over Liam as this series continues, that was so tragic. The end reveal with Brennan was so fucking good, it has been a long time since I have truly dropped my jaw at the end of book, but this one got me there. 

Character summaries: 

 Dain sucks, what a shitty friend, wanting to keep a friend safe is understandable but the self righteousness is unbearable. The betrayal in the end of him reading Violet’s memories without asking was unforgivable. Choosing rules over people’s lives is simply infuriating, what an awful person. The rule thing also makes hardly any sense because he was willing to break them to get Violet into the scribes but at no other point is willing to come close to breaking the rules. 


Xaden is also self righteous but at least he has a legitimate reason to be as he knows the truth of the country and has a reason to look down on others. He is a complicated character but overall I liked him and I hope he continues to put others before himself because that attribute is what makes him so good. 


Violet is great. I love the way she is written. As she grows and learns her body is just different that doesn’t mean she cannot do what others do, I thought it was a fantastic message. Her bond with Tairn and Andara was the moment I felt she had a change in her where she grew to believe in herself. 

Mira is badass, I like her a lot. Her absolute fierce love for her sister is admirable and I hope in the end she joins Violet and Brennan in the revolution. 

Liam… I’m so upset Yarros chose to let him die. He deserved so much better and I have extremely high hopes for his sister in the next book.

Tairn is great, the inner monologues with Violet provided more insight into the dragon world and he felt like a concerned father essentially. It is a good relationship and I love how it’s written. His protection of Andara as well, altogether just very good. 

Andara, tons doesn’t happen with her in this book but I truly believe she will be the key to Violet’s power as things progress!

All other characters felt too sidelined to have tons to say, Rhiannon, Riddick, and Sawyer are fantastic and I hope they continue to be strong friends to Violet and choose the right side in the end, although I have no doubt Violet will have more friends betray her like Dain. 



And lastly, of COURSE this book has dragons. If you want a book with dragons read this book!!!
