Okay, so this is the exact same book as A Cool and Lonely Courage by the same author. While I admire her drive to share this story with the world by repackaging and marketing it three different times, I wish I'd had been a bit clearer that this was the same story. I was really excited to read a fourth account of SOE, but this was just a book I've already read and that disappointment is why I'm giving one less star than I did the original book.

My opinions still stand though, It's an amazing story following some of the most amazing women ever to live, but the writing could use a lot of work. Reading this for a second time after reading Kim Philby's memoir was interesting as the first time I had had no idea who the guy was but now I do.

This was a very solid and engaging memoir. There will definetly never be a spy book like this one. It was fun, engaging and thrilling to read. His memory was immaculate, giving an amazing look into the inner workings of the SIS and the FBI of the time. I wish the book had been longer, for I found myself not reading just to prolonge the experience.

Was much better than I was expecting. Her values are similar to mine, and I'm impress at how she stood up for her right to education. I love learning, but I don't think I could or would ever be as brave as her.

If this book proves anything, it's that genre biographies should be a thing. I really enjoyed this book, it just wasn't good enough to be one of my all-time favourites. I love reading biographies, I've read quite a few now and still have more on my TBR, but while they are compelling stories, they often times lack a plot. I love plot heavy books, and unfortunately this was not one of them. It's a very character driven book with very compelling characters and it really hooked me, but I did not find myself enjoying it in the way I have for other books. Evelyn is such an interesting character and there is no way this book could have worked outside of a biography/memoir formula.

I love that Evelyn owned up to everything she did. She knows where she went wrong and she knows she'd do it all over again for the fame because she knows herself. It's refreshing to see. I haven't read many characters who are honest in the way Evelyn is as she is telling her story. It makes it feel all the more real and remarkable. I think there should be more genre biographies because they allow us to explore interesting characters in a way a plot-heavy book cannot and I appreciate that.

I still highly recommend it to anyone looking for a character driven book about how far is too far to get what we want. I have a lot of thoughts on this. I have not read many memoirs and the most memorable one I can compare it to is The Glass Castle. Mentzel's voice is very different than the one used there in many ways. It comes off as "stronger" but I would also say in some ways abrasive and less engaging. It definitely feels like an author's first book. However, her writing wasn't bad. It told the story that it needed to and it assisted in telling that story.

I wasn't expecting to connect to her narrative as much as I did being the older sibling, but I found that it never meant I wasn't in someone's shadow. I feel like I've always been in my mom's shadow. I can't say I related to her specific events, but the ideas were there.

And finally, as one of those Idina fans, it was a super interesting read. It was interesting to see her as a sibling, more of a person than an idol. It was also weird reading a book written by her sister. If this had been any other memoir it would have been fine, but sometimes I couldn't help but feel like I was prying into a second person's life instead of the author's.

Cute children's book! Very inspirational and covers all the basic information Ina fun and inviting way for kids. Even includes If/Then!

My only issue with this book is that it's too short. Croggon is a phenomenal writer and this made me wish we had a book from Saliman's prospective. It's been years since I've read the series and even eith this short installment I fell right back into it. I love it so much, it's criminally underrated.
