I am so disappointed in this book. I could see how people would enjoy it, as it's not an unenjoyable book, but it's not good. There's so much wasted potential.
Pirates! In a fantasy world!! And we get 0 world-building, a fantasy element that is brought up with 0 foreshadowing (at least they could have mentioned the rumour earlier in the book instead of mentioning AFTER the fantasy element come up out of nowhere), and then the main character blacks out and someone tests her powers so we learn all everything about it in a way that is pretending not to be an info dump.
Other than mentioning that all the characters are pirates, nothing remotely pirate-y happened. This plot could have been by any generic bad guy for any generic reason. The pirates here are a setting, nothing more.
Also, this girl can withstand interrogation but spills the second they threaten to cut her hair. Give me a break.
And the romance was not insta-love, luckily, but it was barely built up.
And the MC's inner monologue is so annoying a pretentious, going on and on about how she could just kill everyone here but rarely does anything truly badass or cool or smart.
Cool concept, not even an attempted execution. I honestly feel like this is a teen ya romance author trying to write fantasy and failing at every level of the genre.

I think this series dragged on way too long. The first book was good, but the second two feel unnecessary, and they could have easily been condensed into one amazing book.

Didn't like this one as much as the first one, but I wouldn't call it middle-book syndrome. More of a personal preference. This was quite good, especially for the middle book of a series.

I'm not quite sure what I was expecting from this, but I was slightly expecting it to destroy me. Maybe it did not because I have already found that media piece that spoke to my soul in a time of crisis. Either way, I was expecting a sadder ending, but I'm glad it did not have one.
Read this in a day. It's so fast paced, but feels very drawn out. I was expecting to take more time reading it.

I've been going down a bit of a non-fiction autobiography hole it seems, even for people I know nothing about. I forget what book website algorithm showed this to me but I'm glad they did. It's a breath of fresh air.
Very personal and fun to read. It's very light and when I had time to read I was flying though it. Not laught-out-loud funny but I found a very amusing. Certainly worth it for the ebook price.
Any theatre or Wicked fan should give it a read.

This was a very good book. It gave a nice backstory to the villain of Rumpelstiltskin, making him much less villainous. I never would have imagined him being friends with a bad-ass Red Riding Hood. Rump is a funny protagonist with a great view on the world around him. His quest to find himself and the rest of his name is imaginative, yet true to the original fairy-tale. I've always wondered how Rumpelstiltskin got his name, and this finally cleared it all up for me.
