Steamy office romance. Decent spice. Okay plot.

MINI SPOILER. NOTHING HUGE.
I have a few issues with this book in general. I don’t like that it’s marketed as a love triangle when that’s not the case.
I take issue with her not wanting to have trigger warnings for a domestic abuse story.
I also take issue with her and atlas’s relationship being illegal?

DNF. hard to finish. May try again some other time.

2.5 stars. There were several things that were okay and several that weren’t.
Good things:
Love the Hispanic representation in a novel
Sex was alright

Bad things:
Glorifies women being emotional support for men whose mothers didn’t show them enough love

Forced closeness after sex. Like they were ridiculous comfortable after their first kiss and sexual encounter despite the awkwardness that they ended the night with. This forced closeness is seen a lot throughout the book.

Accidental pregnancy trope that expedited the happily ever after

Artemis POV was rough to read and made me feel bad for Claudia

Despite Claudia having access to see past the wall he puts up she generally doesn’t for 3/4 of the book

General random plot holes like why did Claudia reject him before for fear of being kicked out and not later? Sophia hadn’t changed her mind on that. Why does Artemis ponder why Claudia started calling him sir when he’s the one that ordered her to?

Boys names mixed up here and there made it confusing at times.

It was hard to fall in love with him when he was using her to fill an emotional void and sexual fantasies. It didn’t feel like love.

Contradictions like crazy. Example: She says she’s never impulsive but has slapped his mother and never seems to hold her tongue and made out with the youngest brother that’s supposed to be like 16 or something?
Also why does Christina say that her father is giving the arranged marriage just as much as Artemis father but then later when he calls it off she is perfectly fine with it? Like thought there’d be a bit of angst about her dad.

Her moms illness could have been spoken on more and developed along with the situation with the mom blackmailing her. I felt like that was just glanced over and became a nonissue way too fast.

Well I can honestly say that I have no idea what the fuck I just read.
I’m disturbed quite so. But what I’m most disturbed about is Enzo’s thought process the entire book. Like how he fully HATES her for stealing his identity and nearly kills her over it? Like bro report it. It’s not that serious. He SHOULD have been forgiving her, especially after the shit he pulled but heaven forbid she holds a grudge against him. Then a switch flips and he’s like possessive over her and only he can hurt her?
The lighthouse plot was interesting and what kept me coming back. I cannot fathom how anyone would ignore that banging from a man that locks them in the room and has claimed to kill people. Also, there’s a deranged man on the loose with a gun and someone walking around in chains but they’re just gonna have sex on the kitchen table? Like what? I love a good thriller plot and good smut but I feel like this one missed both marks.

This book was adorable. Such a cute pick me up with a fun twist. The art was also beautiful. Highly recommend.

Note: we no longer support Sophie Lark in this house.

The spice was good and I liked the concept.

However I was disappointed that the author didn’t flesh out more of the mafia aspect of things and instead we got the crazy ex bf trope. I feel like it had more potential.
