my first time reading a full length novel by this author. i liked it, but it definitely lacked something for me (i can't quite pinpoint what that is). i enjoyed the themes being explored, as well as the biological/scientific bits. but i don't think this novel is particularly memorable, or will ever be something i'll reread/think about again :/
okay but the SMUT IN THIS, lorddd i am going to hell
part of me wants to give it a higher rating because it made me cry lol, but i also know that i only cried because i'm just extra emotional these days, so i'm not sure where that leaves me?? Jules was uncomfortably relatable (not in terms of personality, but more in terms of the internal stuff she's struggling through). it caught me unawares, and i may or may not have shed a few tears

3.5 ☆ - i definitely enjoyed this one more than book 1 (going in with low expectations helped lol)
i ADORE Bridget, she's the type of heroine i love to read about it in romance novels. she's sweet (but not sunshine heroine level of sweet), and she's a lil freak in bed. i love a good balance.
i was a little nervous about Rhys towards the start. i've reached the point with romances where i'm over the excessively possessive heroes (like get a grip PLEASE) but Rhys definitely grew on me <3 he is the embodiment of the "hates everyone but her" trope. it was cute.
i love the taboo, forbidden vibe this book had going on. but OOF the time jumps (my biggest pet peeve with romances lmfao). it definitely damaged the story for me. i don't just want glimpses into the characters relationship, i wanna watch it grow. anyway, this was fun and definitely a step up from book 1 (thank god). I've heard that book 3 is even better so i'm excited!!!

i don't know why but i thought this book would have similar vibes to [b:Tryst Six Venom|54661258|Tryst Six Venom|Penelope Douglas|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1620195849l/54661258._SY75_.jpg|85282745]....... i was very wrong. there's so much that went on this book lmao, it was wild.
we start off with our main character, Aura, having a flashback to when she was in a cult (???? it was so random). we quickly learn that she's escaped the cult, and she's now living with her boyfriend and best friend. although she's escaped, she's still haunted by past trauma and experiences. Ruby, the love interest, is a stripper. on a date gone wrong, Ruby and Aura meet at the club. things then go to shit, pretty much.
firstly, Ruby and Aura were cute, i guess? i love it so much when characters are consumed with each other, to the point of obsession. they're constantly on each other's minds, the dark passion, mutual longing and desire, and just straight up always being horny for one another.... I LOVE IT.
saying that, it did feel slightly rushed?? Ruby and Aura lock eyes at a club, and it is INSTANT attraction and desire. i think i prefer more of a gradual build up, but that is definitely a personal preference thing.
i don't want to get into too much detail, but there are some hyperspecific *points of interest* that i NEED to talk about lmao
- if i hear the term "energy" or "vibe" one more time, i'm gonna bash my head against the wall
i'm alll for cute, unique and original terms of endearment, but WHAT is "vibe girl"

"I'm always going to want you. Always dream of you. You've ruined me for anyone else. Do you know that? I can't fucking think straight when you're around, can't imagine being with anyone else that isn't you."

i was NOT expecting this book to be higher than 3 stars tbh. My last CoHo book was It Ends With Us, which was kinda underwhelming, in my opinion. and so I went into this book with slightly low expectations.... how stupid of me. this book was actually pretty good
Kenna, the main character, was stunning, she was absolutely the highlight of this story for me. I was SO invested in her, literally all I wanted was for her to be happy. My new fav CoHo heroine without a doubt.
I liked the other characters too. The love interest, Ledger, was a SWEETHEART. I love how sweet and fair he was with Kenna. Ledger is literally the blueprint.
Saying that, I didn't care for the romance at ALL. It grew on me towards the end, but that's solely because it was being shoved down my throat lmao. I loved each character individually, but im not sure if I love them together??
Which is really bizarre because this is a romance book, and I found myself caring more for Kenna's individual storyarch, than I was for the actual romance.
Still so good tho, suuper emotional (I teared up twice), fast-paced and reallly quick to read, stunning mc. what a surprise, honestly.

Literally dead.
Literally dead.
This book is the cringiest thing i have ever read. The male love interest was awful, he was abusive and irritating and i lost count at how many times he had gaslighted Olivia, the main character. He was so immature and had the most stupid double-standards.... just no. This couple broke up like 6 times over really bizarre, random things and it made no sense to me, I'm not even fucking kidding. And don't even get me started on the amount of Italian stereotypes in this book, or the incest plotline that was never resolved, oh god.......
I couldn't help but laugh at how ridiculous certain scenes in this book were. The fact that the author was being deadass serious when writing them, and that it isn't satire, is insane to me. Extremely cringey, unrealistic and ridiculous, i definitely would NOT recommend this book, or ever reread it tbh.
