Reading this was EVERYTHING and greatly written in my opinion. True definition of a page turner. I didn’t go into this with high expectations because I just got into reading thrillers. Buuuuut Wanda came with it lol. She had me on edge every time something new was revealed. The flashbacks had me iffy at first but it brought the story together. Her secrets weren’t so bad except one thing she did but I won’t spoil it. The ending definitely caught me off guard. So, I highly recommend this one it was almost like watching a movie.
Overall I enjoyed this read‼️ Not going to lie some of the chapters had me iffy with the jumping back and forth. Though the story itself seemed really believable almost sounded to good to be made up.
It wasn’t 100% relatable aside from Thandi losing her mother. Which I’ve experienced for myself and understand firsthand how grief can cause a whirlwind of emotions and make you behave in a way you typically wouldn’t because you’re trying to mask the pain. But even with not being able to relate to the story completely I found it quite unpredictable which kept me reading.
There was a lot I enjoyed about this novel and parts I didn’t care much for. But Zinzi pulled everything together to paint us a vivid picture of what Thandi was experiencing.
I just felt there was so much going on. She could have left certain aspects out and saved them for another book.
I won’t say this read is for everyone but I’d still recommend‼️‼️
I really loved this‼️‼️ It was such a beautifully written story filled with so much emotion and depth. The novel is told from a multi-generational perspective so it’s a lot of back and forth with the timeline. But it gave insight to how they’ve all had their fair share of struggle or hardship. While also exploring a common situation that brought them all together and how this person’s choices affected everyone around them.
I can’t really put this one into words because Woodson covered so much and although it was a quick read it gave you a lot to think about. This wasn’t something I’d typically read and I went into this not really knowing what to expect. But I was definitely left wanting more and wanting to know more but not in a bad way.
Out of all the characters Iris stuck out the most. Not because she was dealing with teen pregnancy but how she felt and dealt with being a teen mom after having the baby. She was so misguided and uneducated when it came to her body and the decisions she made.
I can sympathize with Iris a bit because at one point we were all teens and did things or behaved in ways that put us into bad situations we’d later learn from or regret. Then poor Aubrey was just as lost and confused as her.

Let’s talk about how to get away with mfkin MUURRRDER‼️‼️ Omg y’all I really loved this it took me a minute to finish because I was reading other books in between. But WOW is all I can say. The beginning started rocky for me. I was annoyed it took a minute to find out why Ivy was going to ruin this woman’s life. Although I had an assumption it still had me like come tf on already
First let me just say WOOOOOW‼️‼️‼️ I’ve never read something that broke my heart like this. . . . . I don’t know if I was more angry than sad but this definitely had my emotions all over the place.
I’m a huge fan of Kimberla but it all felt too real

Finished the audiobook for this today and I must say I didn’t hate it. I’ve read mixed reviews and only decided to read or take a listen solely based on the cover itself. I also feel I enjoyed it the most because of the British accents.
Finished this ARC today and I must say I didn’t love it but I didn’t hate it either. I just really wasn’t as drawn to it like I thought I’d be. But it kept me reading only because I wanted to know who the killer was.
There was so much going on with each of the characters most of which tied the story together but a lot of it was irrelevant. The side stories kind of made it drag a bit in the beginning and it could’ve involved a little more suspense.
Then with it being told from multiple perspectives some of the characters like Okasana, Frank, and Rick were all irrelevant to me. Don’t get me wrong she did well tying all of the characters together but all of them really weren’t needed. Now the killer was the only highlight moment for me because I didn’t expect it to be them. She really almost lost me in part two when she kept referring to our said killer/kidnapper as IT. I would assume that was to prevent from revealing them too soon.
Overall this book did to much and didn’t give enough. Can’t say I’d recommend because it didn’t really wow me. But I’ll let you guys be the judge of this one if you choose to read‼️‼️

I was super excited to read this until I did. After the first 7 chapters I was not only bored with the story but becoming impatient with her just getting to the point of what this was all about. So much was said yet a lot of it seemed irrelevant and it really could‘ve been left out in my opinion. Once I made it to Chapter 10 I was at a complete disconnect with the story. Josephine just seemed so random and all over the place.
The flashbacks threw me for a loop every time. There were points where I had to ask myself what is she rambling about. Sometimes flashbacks can really take away from a story if you’re throwing in timeline jumps that aren’t needed. I was honestly disappointed that the book turned out to be nothing of what I expected.
I didn’t stop at Chapter 10 though I jumped to Chapter 30 because I wanted to at least know how things ended. So, now here I am reading about her friend Angie who’s about to get married. Fast forward a bit now Josephine is in jail because she’s a witch LOOOOOOL. I was done at that point story over no need to even go back and see what lead up to everything.
My first assumption when I began reading was in the end she’d come out as a witch or something along that line.
Overall this was very slow paced and could have given more. None of the characters are memorable except for Preston who she refers to as “Party City” which is literally the only reason I remember him.
This one was definitely a no for me but I won’t say it wouldn’t be a yes for you!!!!! My rating is 2.5 for this which is solely based off what I read. Thanks to the author and netgalley for my advanced readers copy.

Special thanks to the author, publisher, & @netgalley for my advanced copy.
I really enjoyed this novel it was a great family drama. The writing style was amazing , character development was great, and I loved seeing everything unfold. But I also felt like there was something missing and maybe there could’ve been a better reason for Nona leaving her family behind. Opposed to it being over a simple misunderstanding that could’ve been cleared up by a simple conversation.
Julia kind of annoyed me because I honestly didn’t see why she held a grudge with her sister for leaving. Never hearing from Nona after she left was understandable but she didn’t attempt to reach out either. So, I didn’t feel her argument was sufficient enough to be that hurt considering what she did to her sister.
Also, the fact that their grandmother and Julia didn’t see anything wrong with Julia marrying Marcus just because Nona left was crazy. This entire family was the reason they were so divided. To many lies and assumptions.
I didn’t like Sanganette!!! That’s all I have to say about her because her character really wasn’t needed.
But the author did well touching on various topics involving racism, family heritage, and cultural history most of which involved the South. The novel really expounds on how miscommunication and well kept secrets can tear a family apart. Their family had A LOT of secrets and each time something was revealed things got worse before they got better.
Overall, this was a decent read so I’d definitely recommend!!!
