is this a good summer read? some stories are yes! is it a good overall read? depends who you ask! i found myself losing interest in the last quarter of this book. yes eve’s prose is stunning and she is so good at setting a scene and transporting you back, but a lot of the dated language and ideologies were hard for me to separate. this is my first eve babitz book and am unsure if i will read another.

I’m torn between giving this a 3 or a 4 star rating. Aspects of the ending really threw me for a loop in a way I was not expecting. There are so many complicated messy layers to the characters in this book. It shows readers that navigating life is fucking hard no matter your age especially when you come from a home fueled by childhood trauma. I just really wanna hug pizza girl and tell her to listen to Sour Breath by Julien Baker?
