this lil unhinged gem was exactly what i needed in life right now
i really loved the prose it was disturbing and beautiful i both wanted to absorb every word and felt nauseous taking it all in. the imagery and language used were creepy and held my attention in such a forceful way. ultimately the book fell flat for me at the start of part 2 when i was able to guess the twist coming. it was the perfect read for spooky season, but i wish it were able to offer up a bit more.
i want to live in this book
i really enjoyed this book, i do however feel that part 1 was a way stronger story than part 2. part 1 was a fever dream that kept you guessing and left you wanting more, part 2 felt like a patchwork wrap up of the story. i wanted a bit more from the conclusion.
this book was such an underwhelming disappointment full of predictable twists and an uncomfortable amount of abuse that wasn’t needed to drive the plot forward. pseudo feminism, not a single likable character or plot line. horribly detailed sex scenes that ALSO did nothing to drive the plot, it all just fell flat for me. also not enough background on WHAT the motherhood collective was for me to care enough about that piece of the plot? lots of storylines around the cult were started and never fully flushed out..
Once again, thank you to Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for this audiobook copy in exchange for a review!
Wow….I don’t even know where to begin about this beautifully curated collection of short stories. I’ve never read a short story collection that genuinely made me care about each and every story. They’re tales of intimacy. Intimacies of heartbreak and trauma. They’re told in eerily dream like verse. These stories are exploratory and bizarre. they’re alienating and ethereal. I will absolutely be thinking about this book nonstop and recommending it to anyone who will listen. G, Yeti Lovemaking, Peking Duck and Tomorrow are among my favorites.

i support women’s rights but more importantly i support women’s wrongs
i’m torn between rating this a 3 or a 4. yes it was a gripping original story and idea that genuinely had me gasping and screaming all throughout both in good and horrific ways. however pieces left me wishing it were paced quicker? i feel like the backstory is drawn out to let us know why certain characters were the way they were WHICH I GET! and then it felt like the climax happened so quickly after such a large build? sawyer was sincerely one of the scariest characters i have ever encountered within the pages of a book. i also didn’t realize how heavy the subjects in this story would be so i would recommend checking TW before reading.
overall it was good book to begin my spooky season reads!
