This volume was a total mess. I’m not sure what to think because the first two were so promising. Disappointing!
This started out feeling very hokey and mid 90s but none of that really mattered once the story got going. Nice, quiet novel about a teenager dealing with the loss of a friend.
Not enough of a Batman aficionado to get all the finer nuances but I liked the overall story.
This book is very much a product of its time. It is pretty misogynistic and more than a little racist. That being said, it really captures the fear and fascination of atomic power. Reminded me quite a bit of On the Beach by Nevil Shute, like On the Beach with the world building of Swiss Family Robinson.
The art is stunning but this story is just such a hot mess. It is such a good idea though. This really needed a better editor.
Fascinating overview of native cultures in the Americas before the arrival of Columbus. Very readable, with interesting anecdotes everywhere.
Short but sweet graphic novel about gardeners and ghosts!
Really interesting thematic overview of the colonization of North America and the island nations. The chapters on New Mexico in particular were fascinating as that’s a whole part of history I don’t remember reading about at all. I read this as a companion piece to 1491 and while there is some overlap, ie Cahokia and the Mississippi peoples, it works really well as an augment to that book. The chapters on religion and how flawed our perception is of America as a place of religious freedom was super thought provoking.
Couldn’t put this down. Great overview of the Green River killer case by the son of one of the lead investigators.
This was a very sweet book about a Finnish American chef. I checked it out from the library because it was the only Finnish cookbook in the catalog. Didn't realize it was more of an autobiography with recipes interspersed than a true cookbook. About two pages into the book I realized this woman was from the next town over of my mother's Finnish side of the family. Minnesota is a small world.
