So, this is a classic case of "excellent writing technique won't breathe life into a story". Or maybe I'm just not the target audience for this particular narrative. I really wanted to love this book with everything in me. The writing style kept me going but at the end of the book, I realised that I don't care about any of the characters. I felt like, "is that it"? Maybe, it's just me. I expected too much because of the premise.

I quite enjoyed this novel. Surprisingly. I loved the depiction a very complicated grandmother-mother-daughter relationship. We don't get that a lot, do we? It's a very interesting novel.

Reid knows how to pull at the heartstrings. I like that. I enjoyed this novel but my heart didn't bleed like it usually does when I read a Reid novel.

If I could give this book 10 stars, I would! I loved everything about it. The narrative is gorgeous. The characters are so well developed I'm going to be thinking about them for a long time. I also listened to the audiobook which was impeccable and now I'm going to go listen to other books narrated by the narrator. Such a gem, this novel!

I was skeptical about this at first because of all the mixed reviews but I quite enjoyed it. It's not one those memorable novels though but it is still an enjoyable reading experience.

What a lovely novel. I love stories with heart and this had plenty❤️

I appreciate a romance novel with well rounded characters. This is a lovely read.

The novel gave me vibes of Frying Plantain (the "searching for self" and the mother-daughter relationship), Luster (the lush writing and very similar protagonists), and Queenie(for that self-destructive spice). I've enjoyed all these books, but there was just something extra missing for me to fully stan. So, if these four books could be merged, it'd be epic.

Overall, I really like this book.
