I have a hard time believeing this is a children's book (or movie) because I find it haunting and terrifying. I first read it a couple years ago and it was just as creepy reading it again.
I read this for the "A Childhood Favorite" part of my 2018 reading challenge. It certainly sucked me in right away, then left me feeling lost and confused at the end. I was not expecting it to be so sad.
I read this for the "A Book With Non-human Characters" part of my 2018 reading challenge. I really enjoyed it, it's a great story with or without making the political comparisons.
This had a really interesting premise, but I felt a bit let down by the slow pace. I would have liked more involvement from the local spirits.
I purchased this book from the author at the Edmonton Comic & Entertainment Expo. I was a little bit disappointed, because I expected book 2 to be a continuation of book 1 as I felt it had ended with a lot of questions left unanswered. Instead, it's more of a prequel book that still left me with questions.
I read this for the "A Book about travel" part of my 2018 reading challenge. I loved it, like I love all of his books. I enjoyed the road trip through the US and the idea that landmarks are places of worship. I also liked the variety of different gods.
I borrowed this book from the library because I love her poem First Date. The others I enjoyed as well, but they didn't jump out at me quite the same.
I first read this in school and I think I enjoyed it more then than I did now. The boy's reactions to their environment and their lack of following leadership seems accurate, but no sense of time really passes for how long they've been on the island.
