I read this book for the "Any Book From The 2017 Goodreads Choice Awards" part of my 2018 reading challenge. I liked it, it was a really quick read for the size of the book. It felt quite Alice In Wonderland-y with all the colours and descriptions of Caraval. Hopefully the movie deal follows through, as for once I feel this story would be better seen than read.

I don't know if I can handle any more of this series. Her string of boyfriends, her childish language, her repetitive friends. I might not be able to continue this mess.

I read this book for the "A Science Fiction Novel " part of my 2018 reading challenge. It was really weird and yet really interesting. The Darwinists vs. Clankers was a neat twist, and the biology of the air creatures was well done. The plot never advanced too far, it felt like this book was mostly just introducing characters and setting everything up.

I received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads. It reminded me a bit of a Tamora Pierce book, with a young person going through trials not normally for them, and beating the odds. It had potential, but it was a bit sloppy. I felt like the timeline was very rushed, events didn't take a logical amount of time, and the book seemed to take place over only 2 days instead of realistic weeks. I also thought that Sallot made too big of a deal out of being gender fluid - I understand that people using the wrong pronouns is irritating, but it seemed like every few pages it was complained about. People you meet for the first time are rarely going to address you properly, regardless of how you change your clothes.

It was interesting that the generic human-vampire story had a post-apocalyptic twist. I'd be interested to learn more about the war, and to see how her relationship continues now.

Definitely strange, I found it felt a bit rushed and forced. She didn't seem upset enough by any of the events, and took everything in stride too easily. I'm glad she wasn't a pushover though, she took her powers in hand and did the right thing.

This is not a stand-alone book, do not read it before the other two like I did. I found it very confusing, and the parts that tried to be whimsical just felt annoying.

I purchased this book from the author at the Edmonton Comic & Entertainment Expo. It reminded me a lot of the Red Queen series by Victoria Aveyard, with the two factions of the kingdom and the subterfuge. I realy enjoyed it, the characters were good and the plot was interesting and kept moving at a good pace. I look forward to book two.

I purchased this book from the author at the Edmonton Comic & Entertainment Expo. It reminded me a lot of the Red Queen series by Victoria Aveyard, with the two factions of the kingdom and the subterfuge. I enjoyed this more than book 1, it wasn't complex but it was less predictable and ended in a terrible place that makes me crave book 3.

I read this book for the "A Book Chosen Solely By It's Cover" part of my 2018 reading challenge. Now that I know it is a retelling of the Brother's Grimm "The Twelve Dancing Princesses", the plot makes a lot more sense. I still felt that the plot was a little weak in spots, but it was interesting enough that I read it in one day.
