It's like a little D&D game came to life!
The diversity (specifically LGBTQ+ rep) in characters was nice and this book, or specifically Eugene, was so horny. I liked the illustrations, though I think it would have improved from a bit of complexity since they were rather simple--which is completely fine! There is some allusion to a mysterious backstory which I think would allude to sequels, which I would completely read.
What I would have liked:
I wish there would have been a bit more story...maybe if it was longer, there was like a red-herring or two... something to make it more like a D&D campaign or just to flesh it out a bit.
I'd recommend this for:
People who like simple stories and enjoy a bit of spice. I think anyone who has ever played a D&D campaign will enjoy this graphic novel, as they might find themselves in some of the characters.

I didn’t really like this book. I found the majority of it to be ridiculously sad and not particularly inspiring. I kind of get that that’s the point, but at the same time, it seemed like it was trying to be inspiring at the end, though it kind of missed the mark in my opinion.
I bought this book and was thinking about doing it to the library because it was an award nominee and I’ve heard good things about the author, but now I’m not so sure.

I loved this book! It was so interesting to get inside into Fords time being a young scientist. I also really enjoyed how you got a little bit more information about what happened between a few the episodes.
Now I just need to get a cool Gravity Falls tattoo and my honorary Pines family membership will be complete!

I liked it! I’m not really a fan of the romance genre, but this was so sweet. Very fanficy for sure!

I liked this book--not as much as Kwama Alexander's book "The Crossover" but it was still great.
What I loved:
The story was interesting, the poetry was dynamic and accessible (even for me!), and I liked the themes in this book. There was such fun wordplay and I love how discovering a love for reading was an important theme in the book. The graphics in the novel didn't detract from the poetry itself so I felt like it kept a very natural flow, but they also brought the characters to life in a way that the poetry itself might not for some.
What was ok:
I didn't, however, feel like the graphic aspect of this added a ton of worthwhile stuff, but I think because of it, it might aid in helping younger readers discover a love for reading.
Final thoughts and who this book is for:
Overall, I really like Kwame's poetry and his middle-grade reads. This book is perfect for those reluctant readers who are a lot like our main character Nick and for those who want to have a better understanding and grasp of poetry.

Not only is this a perfect read-aloud book, but it is also perfect for teaching Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to young children. Plus the discussion questions in the back are perfect.
This book is ideal for Christians who are hoping to instruct little ones in how to create an inclusive, loving, community through the lens of seeing ourselves and others through God's eyes.

I wanted to like this book way more than I did.
What I loved:
Others who are more qualified than me stated that this is had to be a back story. I love it because it’s so unapologetic in its blackness. The deep dive into microaggressions was insightful, and I liked the characters.
What I didn’t like:
The ending—more specifically the epilogue.
It also was a bit confusing at times and the pacing seemed a bit off. Also, some character motivations were unexplained or underdeveloped.
