literally what the hell. I nearly DNFed this book about 10 times but honestly morbid curiosity about whether this would get better got me through. This was so hyped up on tiktok and I'm just angry at how a book this vapid got so much acclaim. The premise is promising and presents as something mildly original in an oversaturated genre but the execution was not there. The characters are boring, the plot is both incredibly fast but also painfully slow. The world building was non-existent and honestly the whole book just made me angry. It reads as a bad fan-fiction with page long chapters and writing that has no forward thought behind it. One positive thing I will say is that the cover art is gorgeous, but then again that makes me believe the saying "don't judge a book by its cover".

Absolutely heartbreaking look at femicide in Argentina. Beautifully written but factual in the harsh reality of the topic.

I just couldn't get on with this book. There was literally the bare minimum of plot and it felt frustratingly stagnant at times. The writing is beautiful, especially at the start and if you like purely world building (and don't mind repetitiveness) then maybe it's for you? I could tell it was meant to be reminiscent of The Shadow of the Wind but honestly you just can't even compare the two books.
