I don't really know what to say about this book. Not subtle in the ways it thinks it's being and really is awfully gruesome for the sake of it. I had to stop reading it for a bit because it was just making me feel ill. Not an enjoyable experience at all. The writing was fine and I feel a lot of people are rating high because of the shock and gore value...very in your face anti-meat propaganda rather than the interesting dystopia I was expecting. I saw someone on here say "undeveloped and cold" and I completely agree. I didn't relate or care about any of the named characters (only the Jasmine) and the plot points felt predictable and slightly stale.

This reminded me of Annihilation which was on of my fav reads of 2021. Very sad, brilliantly written and with that nature/body horror element that keeps it so compelling.
