This book is about a little girl who loves poisonous plants and the community that starts to form around her. 

This book made me think about my relationship to work. I do often list myself as a librarian first. Is that something I should change? This book was a good place to start to reflect.

Guero is a boy growing up on the border between Mexico and the United States (Texas). He is lighter-skinned and more fair-haired than his family, which leads to people thinking he isn't Mexican-American. He has three friends named Bobby who help him navigate the trials of middle school, including bullies and crushes.  An interesting look at life along the border.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer is a German pastor before and during World War II. This biography covers themes of his life: how he decided to study theology, and how his theology inspired the rest of his life. He went to seminary, he studied in the United States. He went to Black churches and was inspired by their social justice positions. As other churches in Germany caved to Hitler's policies, Bonhoeffer stayed resolute that the true meaning of the church was to love all peoples. Eventually, Bonhoeffer joins the plot to assassinate Hitler. Hendrix examines how Bonhoeffer comes to that conclusion, which is one that eventually will cost Bonhoeffer his life.

This book describes how something as simple as a house can provide for so many people, especially new Americans.

A fun book that references other fun books.

I don't have much of a historical basis for Brooke Shields, but I watched her documentary and got interested in her. This book continues my interest in hearing what she has to say. Do I agree with everything she says? No. Do I think she is opening up about a lot of topics that we should be talking about? Absolutely. 

A book about how children took care of a tree during the Holocaust, and how the tree's offspring now live in countries all around the world.
