I love this biography about this dancer, and the way different styles can inform your own personal style.

I think this book really opened up for me when I read the back matter and I understood what the author was doing (making a book about constellations starring Black people).

The illustrations in this are gorgeous. I love the cut paper look. Also, I love Maria Mitchell's philosophy about life and hard work.

What is art? This is a great introduction to Dadaism and art and thinking about the world in new ways.

This is a great introduction to Mary Anning's one of the leaders in the field of paleontology. Many men took credit for her finds, and we are just now learning about which parts were hers. I especially loved the back matter, which went more in depth about the fossils she discovered and what it takes to work in the field.

What a great book that shows how light gets transformed into the food we eat. I wish my storytime kids would sit still long enough for this one!

Normally I have no problems reading gory horror books, but this one got to me a lot. A religious cult has unleashed a plague on the world, using saving the environment from overpopulation as an excuse. Then, they create a monster to kill any humanity that survives, so that the believers will go to heaven and the earth will repopulate. The story is told from the monster's perspective, and they are trying to run away but it's difficult. Benji falls in with a local LGBTQ center that is barely holding on. They have their secrets too...
It's a powerful book. I can see why people say it reminds them of Pet, because I felt that too. It just was a lot of horror for me.

This illustrated novel is a feminist retelling of the Medusa myth. This story feels more historically accurate to me than the myths I have read--where the men are horrible and don't suffer consequences for their actions, but the women do. The illustrations are gorgeous.

Sena survives by picking pockets and avoiding anything related to the racing system that fuels much of the planet's livelihood. That system cost Sena her mothers. Unfortunately, one of the local crime lords has an eye on Sena, despite her best intentions, she gets trapped in his snare. The race becomes a way to escape him and a way to escape with the wolf that shares her mother's name. Sena is a prickly protagonist, haunted by what she has lost and the discrimination she gets for being half "scavver" (a more back-to-the-earth type of group on this frozen planet that tries to live with the elements, rather than change them).
