Maybe I'm not as fascinated by eyes as I should be, but this wasn't my favorite of Steve Jenkins' books. There just wasn't enough information for me.

The illustrations weren't my favorite, but I do enjoy Gaiman's interpretation of the story.

I liked the rhyming text and the illustrations a lot. It also fills a need in my library for the backstory of Hanukkah. We had a lot of books about people celebrating throughout the year, but not one about how the holiday started!

A child ran off with this book after story time. I think it was a hit.

This was a patron request. This book is hilarious! Some of the turkeys think that being selected for the holiday is a great thing, but Runt knows better!

So good. I spent a lot of time thinking about this book. What are the ethics and implications of attaching a head to another body? I also wondered a lot about Travis and Cate. At first I thought he was really rude to not pay any attention to her wishes at all, but then I thought about myself at sixteen and remembered that for him, it was like he had fallen asleep and it was the next day, but it was five years for everyone else. I had more sympathy for him after that (although I still wish he had listened to her.)

The book starts with 40 pages of quotes and pictures. I was a little daunted by that at first (did I forget "Countdown"?) but once I got past it, I was captivated by Sunny and Ray and Freedom Summer. I hope kids can get past those first 40 pages. They are great background information and really helped illuminate the story for me. It freshened my memory of what happened that summer, and provides context for anyone that might not have learned it yet. It also feels very timely, since the Voting Rights Act was just adjusted this year and race relations are still at the forefront of many people's thoughts right now. An excellent read.

It's not necessary to read "Countdown" to appreciate this book.

Loved this book. I loved Georgie so much. I wanted her to be one of my BFFs. I did find the ending to be a bit pat, but I am okay with that. Also, go away Billy!

A good Kwanzaa story.
