For an 800 page book, it kept me reading! I enjoyed this story, watching Wataru come of age and learn about how he wants his destiny to be. I do wish, however, I had more background on Japanese myths and themes, because I think that would have enriched my understanding. To research!
With the recent diversity in YA campaign, I find myself turning a critical eye to everything I read. How diverse is the cast? How are female characters dressed? For me, "Cleopatra in Space" passes. I'm not sure I liked the skirts, but they definitely were an appropriate length and there weren't any inappropriate shots. In terms of race, Cleopatra has tan skin, her friends are white, and the professors range from different cats to an Asian gentleman, and the background is populated with aliens.
Now, as for the story line: I like the way it starts in the middle of the action, then takes you back to where it all started and leads back to that point. The story is good enough. I'd like to see where it leads.

I'm a huge fan of Anderson and this book did not disappoint. Lovely cover, excellent story.
I listened to this one, and I wasn't a huge fan of the narrator. Overall, I think it's an interesting story. I am already a fan of stories of people who have extra abilities. I just found the main character's ability to be a little lame, and was hoping for a bit more pizzazz. I may read the second one.
I read this pretty much all in one sitting last night. I have vague memories of seeing clips from the Wrestlemania match of Andre vs. Hulk Hogan, have definitely seen the Princess Bride, and watched wrestling regularly with my father from birth until middle/high school-ish, and then on and off ever since. As a child, I insisted the whole thing was real, and it's only now from a few repeated viewings, the movie "The Wrestler," and books like this that I'm starting to understand how it is all rigged.
This book covers the life of Andre. I think what I most appreciated about the book was how honest it was about all aspects of his life. He took wrestling seriously and could be very generous. He was also often drunk, callous, had a child and fought against child support payments. He died at 46, four years past when he was supposed to. I also enjoyed reading about his time on "The Princess Bride". This book is not for young fans of wrestling; in presenting Andre honestly, some lewd moments are left in, and there is a lot of drinking. For the high school fan or older, I think it's an excellent read.

Just finished this one! An excellent choice for the list. I loved Willow Chance so much, and the rest of the people she interacts with.
If you have a student who is reluctant to read but loves Angry Birds, this could be a great gateway into reading. Short stories of real-life aggression in birds combined with information about the Angry Birds characters leads to a quick-paced read. If you want in-depth information about birds, this is not the book for you.
I mean, this book answers a lot questions about bodily fluids and functions which I'm sure are vital for everyone to know.
