Age: Infant-Toddler

Another perfect baby shower book about babies growing up. This one stands out as a perfect virtual read-aloud with blank backgrounds and large watercolor images of babies. This book could easily be a staple in a young child's reading rotation.

A newborn is welcomed to the party of life that is full of family, dancing, and daily routines. Nothing new here but it serves as an excellent read-aloud and baby shower present, providing much needed representation of Black families.

Age: All Ages

A beginning introduction to scientific observation for babies. How big? How long? How bright? But add in the silliness of Boynton and you have an excellent read-aloud for ages 0-99.

Body: Fingers
Math: Counting 1-5

Die-cut holes invite the reader to bring these illustrations to life as you read along. One little finger turns into an elephant's nose that then tickles the listener. Two little fingers become the claw of a crab that proceeds to pinch. And on it goes until a surprise 11th hole at the end. Turning this book into a lively, 3-D experience will make this an excellent read-aloud for in-person and virtual. After a first read, you better believe kids will want their fingers to come to life, making this a delightful book for reading over and over again.

Age: Infant-Preschool

Diverse family units bond together through playtime, exploration, and celebration. A wide variety of families are present--from skin color, to age, to sexual orientation--just like in the real world. Love is love is love and these families are in the throws of it.

Bright colors and bold illustrations make this particularly appealing for virtual and in-person storytime.

Duck delivers presents to the animals in town, matching the box's shapes with the animal's favorite shape. Lift-the-flaps reveal houses full of the specified shape encouraging a delightful exchange between reader and listener as you explore the houses. Revealing the packages with each animal starts to form a pattern of items you would bring to a party--but who's party?

A darling lap-sit read that has a delightful story accompanied with detailed illustrations that encourage exploration.

Follow along with a sweet 1-year-old as he does common day-to-day activities including dancing, playing, eating, napping, and more. The cropped, photographed toddler stands out among a sea of black text and illustrations. The black and white contrast is excellent for little eyes while the variety of words provide an excellent springboard for discussion between adult and child.

Age: K-2nd grade

An unlikely friendship forms between a wily rabbit and a hungry, lonely bear. Nothing ground-shaking but the resolution is heartwarming and honest.

Fantasy: Unicorns, goblins

An unnamed goblin narrator lists the various reasons why unicorns are truly the worst. Harp music? Blugh. Frolicking through fields? Not hard. Glitter? Enough already. That is until the goblin finds himself in a sticky situation with a feisty dragon. Who will come to his rescue?

A change of tune for Goblin provides a satisfying ending for this silly tale.
