Age: Toddler-Preschool
Animal: Horse

Boring story but with a bouncing rhythm.

Age: Preschool-Kindergarten
Animals: Mice

A mostly fictional tale about one mouse who loved the weightlessness of space. Accompanied with emotionally charged illustrations, Mousetronaut is sure to be a hit with wanna-be Astronauts and children that love humanized animals.

Afterword on mice in space, a brief history of space travel, and life in space.

Age: Preschool
Animals: Farm and forest
Math: Pairs

Peepsqueak is a curious, adventurous, determined little chick bent on finding himself a friend. A fun little surprise when his new friend is not an identical pairing like the other chicks.

Age: Preschool
Animal: Jungle, jaguar

Lovely watercolor accompanies this story based on a Mayan myth of the mighty jaguar. The story is bookend with a brief description of Mayans and the end includes a cry for help to save the endangered jaguar.

Age: Preschool-Kindergarten
Animals: Farm

This would make an excellent book to contrast with a book that has farm animals fulfilling traditional roles. Also, the illustrator has a perfect way of capturing the emotions described.

Age: K-2nd grade
Animals: Pig, rabbit

Rabbit makes up a list of 10 things he loves about Pig. He has a hard time thinking up more than one so he asks for Pig's help. While Pig is trying to ask Rabbit to leave so that he can work on his own things, Rabbit keeps turning his suggestions into numbers on the list. Great artwork with some fun humor for older kids.

Age: Preschool-2nd grade
Sports: Running, sore losing
Animals: cats, cheetah

Similar to the Tortoise and the Hare, these little house cats use their cunning to out-smart the fastest animal on the planet: Cheetah.

Age: Preschool-1st grade
Siblings: Younger brother (main character) & older sister

When his older sister refuses to read to him, this younger brother's imagination takes control and creates an imaginary battle with a Tiger found in his soup. When the sister finally manages to break away from her own book, she makes a dramatic reading of her little brother's book--so imaginative that she turns herself into a tiger. A great celebration of imagination with an action-focused plot. The illustrations provide unique angles and I love the inside cover art of the tiger chasing the boy around Warhol cans of soup.

Age: Preschool-1st grade
Animals: Pig, frogs
Humor: Confused identity

Why is that bright pink pig sitting in the middle of the frog's pond? And why is he ribbiting?! Completely baffled, and irked by other animals making fun of their unusual situation, the frogs decide to go ask the wise beetle that gives them a rather candid answer.

This book provides excellent exposure to new vocabulary!

Age: Preschool
Animals: Birds

Eye-catching illustrations with a fun story about finding the right bird. It was kind of neat to see the two puffin friends being identically, anatomically correct.
